OT Sunday evening comin' down
Went to Ebenezer Baptist Church, a historic and mostly black church here, this morning with the Platinum Blonde.
Unitarians have the world's worst music tradition. We get all these antique hymns -- not the good old Fanny J. Crosby rockers, but the 16th-17th Century dirges -- and rewrite the words, and pretend we have modernized and securlarized them. Unfortunately, new words just don't do the trick if the music sucks, aside from the fact that it's really difficult to write a memorable hymn if you can't mention God, or Jesus, or the Holy Spirit.
Every now and then, I just have to have my back-pew belt-it-out fix from something like "Throw Out the Life Line," or "In the Garden," or "Love Lifted Me." Besides, the PB, who used to be a lounge singer, won't ever sing for just me. She sings in the choir, which means I must share her with every other hairy chested and heavy corsetted worshipper. So I have to take her somewhere else to have her within arms length when she croons.
The sun was shining, I was able to forget that my taxes aren't done, and Luby's wasn't crowded. It was a very good day.

What a treat. Music is music, and Gospel is a genre, and even more than that. Public Radio here ~graces~ we listeners with programs that lift and nourish the soul and spirit while driving the spectacular Coastal Highway.
Thank you for your vingette...a very good day in the life of the noble notary.
Cheers to you and TPB. and, the rest of 'em, Susie
