OT: To the parents of autistic children

Autism Awareness month. My 4 year old son was diagnosed with autism this year. I am struggling through behavior problems, special diets, vitamin supplements, and endless research. To all who do/have done the same, my prayers go out to you and your families. I pray that you will be blessed and prosper in this business.

My nephew is autistic, so I know firsthand what a challenge it is.

It takes an incredible amount of patience. And the costs are enormous. But more important, it takes an incredible amount of love. It's what they need most.

Good luck.

Try to hang tough. I have two boys diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, and it has been interesting to say the least. They are now 16, and 14 and doing better than ever. Join your local support group and get other parents insight, this will help you. Take care, Maureen

I have a 13 year old nephew that was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4 as well. He is indeed a very special, and very loving young man, that will always have a special place in my heart. A good support team of family, and friends can be a big help. I wish you all of the best.

Hi , Elizabeth!
I have two sons with Autism that are grown now. (23 and 20) I wish I could tell you it gets easier!
I hope you're making out okay. (It gets tricky accepting appts. sometimes, with all of the extra work we have, doesn't it?)

As a fellow parent of an autistic child I ask all members to

consider visiting http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer and research a bit about a disability that 1 in 150 children born today are diagnosed with. As Elizabeth began to point out April is National Autism Awareness month. Elizabeth if you would like to pm me that would be fine.
