Opinions on "lost" docs
I had a signing last Sat, docs to borrower. We met at Starbucks. Borrower thought I had docs, Tried calling SS, no one home. (of course!) Did talk to title, who said docs were date sensitive, had to be done that day or redraw. SS called this morning, address docs were sent to was the Starbucks! They wanted to know if I had asked the Starbucks people about the docs. I never thought of it! I did call the Starbucks today to ask and no they didn't receive them (at least yet), so that's kind of a moot point. I'm wondering, would any of you thought to ask? To me, this is a bit of a security risk. Once again, the old complaint, WHY OH WHY can't they just send the docs to the Notary!!!

Christi,
Have not heard of sending docs to a non interested business. Why would they accept them? It sounds like a redraw!

on the Other corner; or the Other corner; or the Other corner.. <g>
No, I would never have thought to ask a Starbucks employee if they had my docs. This is so pathetic , it's almost humerous!

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Interestingly enough, Starbucks said they would have accepted them. The manager said no one would have worried about the name on package, they would have just dropped it on her desk. Who knew? :-/

If I was the borrower and my docs got sent to a coffee shop I would be very upset. To much personal information to be sent to a public place. I wonder who's bright idea it was to have you ask if they were there?

I am surprised TC didn't email them to you when you spoke to them about the dilemma. And I can't believe they would send brw's docs to a restaurant. Why would they do that? Because it's the address of where the appt is to have taken place?

Unreal! If this had happened to me, I would have to use the opportunity to discuss this matter with the TC, frequently referencing the GLB Act and consumer privacy. Make the TC's see the error of their ways (and possible exposure to litigation) by using subpar SS's and sell the concept of contacting professional SA's directly.
Just my .02, fwiw.

Unfortunately, at the time I talked to the TC, I had no idea where the docs were sent. As far as I knew they got dropped late or the Fedex guy's dog ate'em. I believe the SS is trying to track them, but I never had the number to do anything with. The only thing I can figure on the why send them there, is no one told them it wasn't borrowers address. I don't think anyone communicated with anyone during this venture! Did I mention this was part two of the signing. 1 borrower up north and mine down here. Property addy was up north.

If the docs were coming from you directly from the first notary, maybe he/she dropped docs off after last pick up the day before, so they might be a day late getting there to you?

Identity theft is a huge problem... it's amazing how smart that TC is. Why don't they just sell their clients name, adddres, dob, ssn and everything else about their life to a complete stranger, atleast this way, they could make a little more money off it. They should be reported to the BBB just for being dumb a$$es.
