StingRay and Embosser
Hi, all. I'm thinking of getting a stingray as the seal I have leaves a bigger impression than I would like - 2 1/4" x 7/8 (approx)". I saw in another thread that the person's measurement of his stingray's impression was 2 x 1/2. While 2" for the length makes sense, not sure about 1/2" for the height. 3/4" is probably more "realistic". Could another stingray owner here be so kind as to post their own measurements? If 1/2" it is, then that's great. I just wanted to confirm the 2" length, mostly. That alone would be a great space-saving difference for me.
Also, for owners of the embosser that's sold here at NotRot, I would also like to get the exact diameter. The handheld and the desk versions should measure the same since they use the same insert, right? Btw, how much bulkier and heavier is the desk version? I think I have strong hands but I don't know how much strength the handheld version really needs.
Thanks. I'd appreciate your help. Ever

My Stingray impression is 1/2" tall by 1.75" long -- considerably smaller than what I had. Maybe the size depends on the state?

You may be right - may depend on state...
as each may require different information on the seal. Thanks!!! In that case, I would appreciate help from fellow CA notaries.

Re: You may be right - may depend on state...
I am newly commissioned 12/2006. California required for us to purchase a seal from an aurhorized manufacturer. The authorized maufacturer had to enter their name and number on the lower portion of the certificate provided and made an impression of each seal manufactured. The certificate was submitted to the state. NotRot is an authorized vendor. I order my stamp from NotRot.

Thanks... However, I already have a seal...
I'm thinking of replacing it with a stingray. Did you order a stringray from notrot by any chance?
I guess I should contact NotRot support for an official answer (Why didn't I think of that? Silly me). I'll be sure to post their response.
Thanks!

That's great!
Would you mind sharing the dimensions of its impression? I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks, Ever

Got my answers! Thank you, GS!!!
Not sure whether you want your name posted.
So, here are the answers for CA:
Stingray: just shy of 2 1/4" by 3/4" (not much smaller than the seal I currently have ) Embosser: 1 1/2" in diameter Ultimark Traveller: just under 2" by just under 3/4"
Thanks!!!

The impression dimensions are:
Stingray Impression: 2.2" x 0.7" Ideal Model M Embosser: 1.5" diameter
The Ideal Model M uses a 1 5/8" insert that is interchangeable with the desk model. The desk model is marginally bigger and could be carried in a bag or briefcase if need-be. Still, we recommend it primarily for use in an office setting or by people without a lot of hand strength.
We will be introducing a new line of self-inking stamps soon. Though I expect the impression size will be the same as the Stingrays, they will be less expensive and will feature a clear base. At that time, we may also be offering a self-inking stamp with a circular impression for California notaries.

Thanks, Harry! How soon is soon?
I already have another authorization to manufacture from the SOS and I'm just wondering whether to wait until the new line is out. Would depend on the timeframe. (Although, I think I'm now inclined to buy just the Ultimark traveller (along with one of the embossers) for now as backup for those real narrow spaces).
Thanks again!!! Ever

Re: Thanks, Harry! How soon is soon?
In the May 1 to May 15 timeframe. Around the same time we expect to have E&O available to notaries in all 50 states.
