slow as molasses here...
is it just a slow time or what? I'm beginning to wonder if this business is falling off the edge... :-(

Week started slow, but had 6 on the books from last week. Wednesday and today the phone has been busy. My long term jobs are slowing down and the last minute deals are picking up.
Week finished off well for us, next week looks good so far. We leave for Vegas for a week on Friday. Normal slow time of the month, best time to getaway.

I'm in NE PA and it has been very slow so I am going to Plan B. I have turned down most of the calls that are coming in because of low fees. I don't know who can make a living on these but obviously someone is taking them. I guess if you do this part time and do not count on it as a main source of income there are takers but it only hurts everyone in the long run.

Since I have a background in originating and I really like dealing with the reverse mortgage work I've had, I am talking to one of the RM co.s about originating for them. I love working with the borrowers. We'll see.

Re: Part time Notary
I do signings part time and I would like to say that because of wonderful mentors here on NT I REFUSED to take low ball fees. The one taking all the risks is the Notary.!!!!!

Re: Part time Notary
I too do this part time and I don't take the lowball offers either! Just because someone is working part time doesn't mean they don't need the income.....

Re: Don't take it personally
I'm glad to hear that you do it part time and do not accept low fees. All I am saying is that there is no way a person working as a signing agent full time could make enough to live on @ $50-65 a closing. You are too defensive.

I'm sorry for the way it sounded. I should have added that I agree with you

I'm getting more calls than I normally do at the beginning of the month, and have had to turn down a couple because of schedule conflicts. Maybe it's a regional thing?

I don't know what is going on. I went from 1-2 a day to maybe 1 or 2 a week. And last week I had to turn two away because one was 2 hours away and the other one was 9:00pm in the evening and they weren't sure when the docs would be ready. No thanks, not waiting around all evening for docs. Pretty disheartening. I don't do any lowball signings either. Not worth my time or effort. Especially the SS that want you to fax back practically the entire package, then wait for their "approval" to drop the package...all for $65?? What's with that? Thank goodness I have a business support service where I offer accounting, website design and other services so that helps during the slow times.

Busy here in SW FL
It seems to cycle whatever areas the lender's are targeting. Jan and Feb were slow for me. This week has been even busier than EOM.

In Maryland, to a great surprise was busier then expected for the beginning of the month. I had 6 today. I have done this full time for going on 5 years. Jan and Feb were terrible, March barely better but I believe it has to get better. Rates are still down and trillions of arm loans are going to expire this year. People are goingn to have to refinance soon. I also refuse to accept low ball fee's. In fact, yesterday I received a call from a signing company for one 30 miles from my house for $145. I took it but then when they sent me the docs, it was a first and second. One hour before the closing is when I found this out. I called them and told them that noway would I do a first and second (email docs) for $145. and told them $200. which is still low. They said they would send me a new confirmation. I refused to release the package to them today until I saw the new confirmation which I did get this morning. I have been working out at the gym which I have been wanting to do in a long time and going on vacation next week. Hang in there!!!

Way more cancellations than usual.
For two different borrowers, scheduled appointment for the following day. Then the appointment was moved to the day after that. Then the signing was cancelled.
It seems that lately the lender is arranging for an NSA before the deal is done. Long, long before the docs are even close to being ready.

Same here -- scheduled BEFORE appraisal was completed
needless to say, appraisal came in lower than expected. -- How does someone schedule the signing before the appraisal is done? Especially with values dropping in the market? Perplexing...

I've been slower then usual. Only 6 closings so far this month :{ I believe some of the reason is that the quite a few of the sub-prime lenders filed bankrupt. I guess its taking the LO's time to resubmit loans in process to new lenders. One of the title companies I work with said they have 30 plus loans waiting for a new lender :{

and remember with the lending guidelines tightening, some people can't be approved anymore... I have talked with some loan officers that said because borrower's didn't act when they first approved the loan a month ago, they are having a difficult time getting them reapproved through other lenders. I really think it has to pick up.

I hope you're right and things do pick up. I'm beginning to think that maybe I've been put to the bottom of the list (or off the list altogether!) so they can contact the newbies for lower fees. We'll see how it goes this month.
