  Everyone dated the DOT today!!
I had 5 closings today, went through them like I have for the last 17 years. Today, every single borrower decided to date the DOT before I could stop them. UGH!! Usually people don't want to date, but today, they were date happy!!!

What do you mean? Did they put the date next to their signature? That shouldn't cause any problems even if a date isn't required.

Countrywide will kick it back if it's dated, in my experience.

Same here; I've seen specific instructions to make sure the DOT is dated. Would be considered "notary error."

I've don't think I have ever seen instructions that require the DOT/mortgage to be dated by the borrower. Also, I don't recall any instructions that say not to date it either.

They were all Countrywide closings, so that will make it interesting.

  Interesting indeed.
I don't know if the ones that got dated were CW or not. Keep us posted on the outcome.

Next time just pull their borrowers's copy and replace it with yours and then have them resign without the date. People just don't listen, even if watch them like a hawk.

  Re: I've had that happen
The docs were all sent to the borrower via UPS. No borrower copy of the DT. Just the Note, and all the disclosures in a funky folder. I so much prefer Edocs at times like this.

Since they all did it, and all had received delivered docs--
Is it possible there was something in the written instructions in the package that prompted them to believe this was the way to do it? Maybe an example that showed a signature and date on the same line, and they just took for granted that every signature line should look that way?
Of course, that assumes that all of them would have opened them up in advance and read all of the instructions--What are the odds of that happening?
It sounds as if the odds of this happening in your experience are so miniscule that there must be some reason for it to have happened. Wonder if there was.
