Hot Headed at the DMV.
Went into the Divison of Motor Vehicles this morning to take care of a few things.
While in line, I hear the lady at the help desk sending another customer to a local bank to have something notarized. I turned around and offered to perform the notarization right there on the spot. The lady at the counter say "oh, do you have your stamp with you?"
I reply, "No, but New Jersey does not have any requirements for a stamp. I am the commissioned notary public, all I need to do is sign and write my information on the form, voila, notarized."
She then proceeds to tell me that if I don't have a raised seal or my commission certificate on me she can not accept the document as being notarized. SAY WHAT??? Again, NJ doesn't have that requirement and DMV policy can not trump State Law!
I took the ladys name and have written the head of the DMV division with a CC to the governor.
She pissed me off.

The raised seal adds authenticity
I went to the Registry on the first and was pissed off because they wouldn't renew my license because they claimed I had a parking ticket in 2001 that wasn't paid for. Why I haven't heard anything about it till now is beyond me.
I had to go to my Town Hall and have the parking clerk give me a release form that tells the Registry the ticket was paid for and they should clear the "non-renewal" status. What a big money maker!!! :-)

Re: The raised seal adds authenticity
That same thing happened to me, they said that I had not paid a ticket. It is a good thing that I keep ALL my receipts I had to show them that I not only paid all fines I also went to the driving school so the ticket would never show on my record or my insurance. It didn't matter to them they made me pay it again including all court cost simply because someone being paid minium wages didn't record it in their record book

That's so true!! Did you know the RMV can over rule a court?
For example, let's say I get pulled over and arrested for driving on a suspended license. Even if I go to court and the court drops it, the RMV (or DMV) can ignore the fact that the charges were dropped and charge me the fines associated with the crime of driving on a suspended license. Needless to say, the RMV can make it stay on your driving record.

***Worse than that, they can make you take a number and STAND IN LINE! ***
Then while you stand in line they can shut down windows and take a coffee break!

Re: That's so true!! Did you know the RMV can over rule a court?
I remember when I was in CA, at the Concord DMV, they'd do that. You'd be in line for over an hour, and when it was your turn, the window would close for lunch!!
Here in NC, they just make things impossible. There are several drivers license offices in each county, and several title/registration offices in each county. They aren't together, so when you move to NC you can't register your car and get your license at the same time. It really bites!!!

a little different here...
Our local BMV is great. Hardly any waiting since Indiana started with the 15 and 30 of the month renewal. Either you are due on the 15 or 30, so everyone isn't trying to get it all done at the same time. Plus, the front page of our local paper today headline" BMV office comes to you". Indiana now has several mobile BMV offices that will travel the state to community events and provide such services as license renewal, ID cards, titles and registrations. They had to do something, they were getting such bad press regarding many problems.
