I now know what happened to NASCO
After wondering last week what happened to them and why their calls suddenly stopped, I emailed one of the schedulers on Friday and got a response today:
We are no longer in the scheduling business. The main office of LandAmerica (LandAmerica Signing Service)has taken the scheduling away from us over a month ago, and we all have been placed in other departments and positions within the company. Please call 1-866-226-8616 option #5 to register. The fees are much lower and not negotiable, they only pay $50-60 for regular closings and $40-50 for clips and all closing fees include edocs; and everyone is paid the same; and most of our agents have resigned. Good luck and it has been nice working with you, and knowing you.

$50-$60 for regular closing. Yikes! How long will that last?
Seriously, that might work in the near term, but at some point something will have to give--either the companies will tire of the poor quality of the returned packages or the suckers will tire of doing all that work for a pittance.

hey barb a company just clld me about 5 min ago asking if i'd like to be in their database. that was their fee schedule w/75 for edocs. i said thx but no thx. at least they asked though so as not to start a 'fee dance.'
i can't say how well they'll do. i just know what i can afford to work for. whatever they decide is fine by me. i didn't put all of my eggs in their basket so as long as they offer those fees i think i'll just pass.

You're probably right. This is very interesting in light of all the recent articles about borrowers who claimed they didn't understand what they were signing. I think these moves to such low fees will pretty much guarantee "point and sign" notaries handling the majority of loan signings. Maybe that's what they all want... Very sad indeed!
