Lack of work

Unfortunately, I have not had much work. The calls that I have had, all seem to get cancelled at the last minute....thank goodness its before I get the docs printed. Things have been so bad that I had to take a job.
I am now working for a credit counseling company! I have seen over a dozen names of people that I did closings for. I even remember doing ARMs for a few of them.
How have you dealt with the slow down?

I've finally been able to enjoy my son's football games w/o having to run out in the middle or show up at the end. Sometimes its nice to be slow ;-)

My husband used to say, "You're never home at night. I feel like I am single."
Now he says, "I love you honey, but a new CSI is on".

That's okay, I am catching up on editing my home movies.

I'm working at my sister-in-laws upscale spa/salon from 9-3. It hasn't interfered with any signing appointments, and I'm enjoying learning about the profession. I'd rather do signing, but just not there.

That's true if you don't need the money to pay your bills.

Well, let see...I have canceled HBO, canceled my wireless air card and lowered my cellular plan. I have resorted to giving myself pedicures and I get my hair done less frequently. My new diet consists of more pantry items (pasta, rice, beans, etc,.) and rarely do I go out to dinner or lunch.

I have been working hard to increase my web presence and it is starting to payoff. I am offering document typing services and have started training to assist homeowners facing foreclosure.

I have continued to market myself and the Florida NSA Network and am happy to say, this week I gained 3 new TC clients.

When the hobbyist are gone, I will still be here. I am more diversified than ever, but I am still a full time NSA.

Re: How have you dealt with the slow down?

Way to go, Becca. And you are right, hopefully. In a state like Florida (not Texas) there will be more business and the non-serious NSAs realize that this wasn't the easy money they'd hoped for.

Yep Brenda. That's what I believe. I sure do miss the bi-weekly pedis, though.

Re: Lack of work - It's time to get a job.

Texas isn't as good of an area to work as a full-time NSA for various reasons and when the interest rates started rising last year I didn't fool around. When a nice job opportunity presented itself I took it.

The only thing left is reverse mortgages. And, certain ss companies are laughable...sending around emails asking us to share what we know about the business...one signing service in particular which is a $50 company/$75 for edocs. Yeah, right...I'll do the job for $150 in my spare time and I can continue to pick and choose. I went on and got a job a long time ago so as not to feel at the mercy of these scalpers. My work is still worth as much as it ever was.

In March I predicted that for most June would be the last of the heavy EOMs.

I suggest that anyone who is experiencing the trickle effect in an area where there are many in the mortgage, lending, title business stop waiting for things to pick up. When you see that the people who give you work are slicing off huge amounts of employees and downsizing you don't put your head in the sand.

Lack of work = It's time to get a job.

Jobs are almost as tough to find as a good-paying signing.

Re: Lack of work - It's time to get a job.

"Lack of work = It's time to get..." out of the business. Fortunately, I'm picking up some slacks left by deadbeats. Unfortunately, my business suffer quite a bit of late from part-timers/hobbyists when it comes to fixing error(s) on a previous day signing.

Again, this is a business and businesses have phone they answer or return call in a timely manner. If you can't get to your cell phone for more than 30 minutes then get out. You'll be hurting yourself sooner or later by not getting pay due to unreachable to fix error. I'm not going to sit around just risking my livelihood and wait until end of the day. I'll find someones who can and pay them.

Are you I/O?

Re: Lack of work - It's time to get a job.

Hey Andy. I hope that I returned your call in a timely manner last week when the title company wouldn't accept the POA acknowledgement that I used and had to re-do one of theirs. Not sure if you were directing this statement at me. I have 4 children to feed and took this job at my sister-in-laws salon to keep food on the table and also because it was going to be the only job that would allow the flexibility to me to keep my signing business my #1 priority - which it is. I can leave to go do a signing, if needed....I can constantly check my phone for messages and answer when it rings.....check my email periodically throughout the day......take any day or part of a day off, if needed, to do a morning or afternoon signing.....no other job would make this possible. So, please don't worry that I'm not going to be reliable enough to do a signing or follow through afterward, because I have a part-time day job. When business picks up again, I will no longer keep my part-time job. :-) Rhonda

Rhonda, what do you know that the others of us don't know? -->"when business picks up again"

Or do you mean you'll keep the part-time job for a couple of years or more?

My opinion is that this isn't a small blip on the radar. I realize the business will cycle around again, but this is not temporary in terms of a month or two IMHO.

That was suppose to be a private reply to Andy...I selected

the wrong tab. Brenda, don't know when things will pick up again, but just like you, I realize the business will cycle around again. Thankfully, I'm able to work for a very supportive family member who is giving me the flexibility to work for her and do as many signings that may come my way. I can keep the job as little or as long as I want or need. I had still had 40 signings for the month of August which I don't think is too bad, and will just wait to see what happens in the future.
