LinkedIn networking site

I received an email to sign up for linkedIn from someone I have no idea who they are. So I did a google search and read the Wikipedia information. It's supposedly a networking site for business connections. Anyone on here a member? I just want to know what this is really about before I click on the link. Im at work so I dont want get fired because it opened up some unwanted and unexpected sites.
