Non-paying company out of business

What recourse is there when a company that hasn't paid you has recently closed their doors?

A BBB complaint seems pointless, and if they declare bankruptcy we don't get paid.

Any ideas?

Donald Russell of C K Title Agency allegedly misappopriated escrow funds and has had his license revoked.
This information was found on the Ohio Dept. of Insurance website.
I unfortunatly performed a signing back in April, before this action was taken.

The contact number I have is disconneted. I already filed a BBB complaint to which there was no response.

Sounds to like a throughly dead duck. Unless you're into vengeance, I'd forget it. The money you spend is very likley to be much greater than the money you will ever recover. Chalk it up to 'experience!' We may all gain some new and unwanted 'experience' in the days to come?

They played with me the last time I dealt with them. They were so annoying. They actually gave me the lame excuse, "Gee, I saw your check here somewhere. You see, we just moved." It took 3 calls with Don to convince him to cut the check. I'm glad they pulled the plug.

I wouldn't just let it drop. Sounds also like criminal charges should be filed and restitution may be a way to collect.

I did speak with someone at the Dept. of Insurance in Columbus. His reply was that being a vendor, there was nothing his dept. could do. He also said there have been many Title and Escrow companies going out of business in Ohio. In the case of misappropriated funds the president or owner may get jail time. However, that still doesn't get me my pay.

I could file a small claim, but I would have to stand in line behind all the other people and business owed by the Escrow Co.
I'm wondering...being commissioned by the Governor, can I get help from the State Attorney General?
