Poor line condition

I received a "poor line condition" (NG) message on my fax when sending some faxbacks. The fax went through just like normal and beeped when finished. My question is, is the line condition my line or the other person's?

I was irritated because I didn't even know it didn't go through till after I FedEx'ed the documents and received several calls stating I didn't send my faxbacks. This hasn't happened before, so I was wondering if anyone has had the problem, whose line is the problem, and can it be fixed?

Thanks...

In my experience it's on the recieving end that has the problem. I had that happen on several occassions. One said that there must be a jam in the machine or no paper in it. They fixed it while I was on the phone and I resent it again and it went through. Also it could be that they are getting a lot of faxes. Possibly it could be that they have call waiting interfering with the signal.

I found that it varies with that message. SILLY and STUPID....yes but that's how it has happened.

That's why I love so much to scan and email instead of faxbacks. With scan and email you have a copy of what you send.

You taught me something very valuable Lisa!

Even if the poster in the previous thread could not see it, you gave me some serious food for thought. Now if I could just figure out how to use a scanner........lol

I think it could be at either end (or somewhere in between). When in doubt, it's a good idea to call the receiving end (if possible) to make sure it's been received.

Depend on what type of a fax machine you have, you can either print a report (# days) of all the faxes you sent or set it to print a confirmation (transmitted/failed) for each out going fax.

I have the HP3100 AIO. I'm able to set it to print a page only when it failed to transmit after 3 tries and also set it to print a report of all faxes each week.
