SOX Payment
I know I shouldn't have ...but I did. I took a SOX closing in April. Scheduler promised they would follow their payment schedule. Well you know what happened. I followed up by calling the scheduler everyday. Then faxed invoice to accounts payable. ( I had completed their online invoice). Then called both A/P and scheduler everyday. I finally threatened them with contacting LO. THAT got their attention. I have to say that throughout the whole time I was very nice except when I "Threatened " them ( it was real hard but I did). On one email the A/P person cc'd two others and I did the same with great success. I got paid. If you are owed for closings here are some contact emails to use.
1st: Accounts Payable Joanna Sadaka [e-mail address]
then try Missy Dobbs VP [e-mail address]
I'm not sure who this person is but I got action after contacting her. Maybe the President? Debbie Vladic [e-mail address]
Remember...KILL them with kindness...and you'll get paid like I did. BUT NEVER AGAIN will I have to worry about SOX paying me...Just say no

Just say no? You've got to be kidding me
According to your profile you've been in this industry for several years. You've been on this board since at least Oct, 06, possibly longer than that if you've switched usernames. In those six months there had to be 30 - 50 threads about SOX all saying the same thing. Yet you still took a signing from them.
And now you're warning others? Why? You were fool enough to ignore the warnings and ended up spending whatever you made on the signing (and probably then some) on collection efforts. And you call it "great success" because you managed to get your few measly bucks after calling every day. Sounds like a great failure to me, just not as massive a failure as those who haven't been quite as lucky to get their few measly bucks out of SOX yet.
I just don't understand when people make such willfully idiotic business decisions.

Cal...I really don't care what you think. Everyone has their reasons for what they do. My post was not to warn others about SOX, but to give them an avenue to get paid. This board would be better off if you would keep your unproductive smart ass comments to yourself.

And this industry would be better off if people like you weren't dumb enough to take jobs from SOX and help keep them in business.
I've done a number of stupid things in my life, and if I don't want people to make smart ass comments about them, I don't post about them on a freaking public message board.
Anything I, or you, or anyone else posts in here is fair game for any response anybody wants to make.

How are we ever going to rid ourselves of companies like SOX
when even people who know better still take assignments from them? Anyone who's been in this industry for five minutes knows what they're about. Go back to the very first day on this board. You know what the topic was? Non-pay by SOX. There's just no excuse to take an assignment from them, no matter what they promise, no matter what they say they'll pay. I could promise everyone a unicorn, what does it matter if I know I'm not going to deliver? We've got enough problems in this industry without shooting ourselves in the foot.

I agree...I screwed up...I knew better...I must have had a brain fart to accept a SOX assignment. I paid the price. My post was an attempt to help those in the same boat...I knew comments like cali's were coming. Nobody's perfect...except Calli. Don't worry, no more idiotic posts from me.

Re: How are we ever going to rid ourselves of companies like SOX
I have read all of your comments, and yes I too take closings from SOX, why you ask? hey they pay me may not be on time, but they pay me, the way I look at it is, it is money in my pocket, I do no turn down closings, this is my income and I think that what goes around comes back around, there are companies just a few that have not paid me and that is not my fault , just a lesson learned, we as notarys want to believe that all companies have integrety and will pay us, alot of lessons are being learned in this business, now we have to be concerned about the market. I will be that last to give advice or come down on anyone for their comments. I just hope that we keep watching we others back and get thru the times that are at hand.

another informational point, NOT simple silly sarcasm
After taking two appointments before I ever saw THIS forum, I was able to get paid by SOX easily and quickly by getting in touch with :
Adam Razani Department of Quality Control SOX Signing Solutions 11 Mareblu Suite 100 Aliso Viejo, CA 92656 [e-mail address] 888.744.6481 ext 37 toll free 949.643.7010 fax
I've done a number of stupid things in my life .......
We know, the way you make "friends" here as often as possible is evidence of that ........
Seriously, people, believe it or not it's not every notary who reads this forum before doing their first assignments, OR before they make their first mistake like this.
When somebody posts in a public forum just to try and help others like Dennis has, criticizing him here about the transgression of ignoring your community's warnings for your own apparent amusement only betrays your private personal need to stay quiet about your own evils ..... and does nothing positive, even for you.
Like Mama always said, if you can't say something nice, it's often better to be silent.

This contradicts everything you've ever posted about SOX
You've always made it QUITE clear that the reason people aren't being paid is because they aren't invoicing SOX in the correct way. The correct way that apparently nobody but you has ever tried.
And now you're saying that Dennis is trying to help people? And that the reason you've gotten paid was because you contact Adam, and not simply because you invoice the correct way?
If Dennis were a brand new signing agent and/or brand new to this board, I'd cut him some slack. But since he's been here the better part of a year, it was just DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB to take a signing from SOX.
And you'll notice, just like EVERYBODY else but you, he had to resort to drastic measures to get his money out of them.
So take your own advice and just shut the f**k up.

And of course you're not including the money that comes out of your pocket in your efforts to get your late payments from them.
Sometimes it is your fault when you don't get paid by a company. If you knew their reputation and still took the job anyway, it's your own fault that you let them screw you.

I have not had to go after them with money out of my pocket, all I had to do was call maybe 2-3 times, but why does that upset you so much.?
You say "Sometimes it is your fault when you don't get paid by a company. If you knew their reputation and still took the job anyway, it's your own fault that you let them screw you."
I cannot understand why you are so negative in the comments I have made. They were not meant toward you. If I took a closing from a company and knew they did not pay, then yes that is my own doing. Gee take a deep breath and relax.

Re: How are we ever going to rid ourselves of companies like

In a business where virtually our entire income is based on selling our time to companies you don't think that the time spent collecting payments owed to you costs you anything?
"If I took a closing from a company and knew they did not pay, then yes that is my own doing."
There's no if about it, that's exactly what you're doing. And because of people like you and San Diego, SOX has been around to screw notaries for years. That's not a good enough reason to be negative?
There are some companies where it's a definite judgment call whether to work for them or not. SOX isn't one of them. Anyone who cares even remotely about their peers and the industry should tell SOX to stick it where the sun don't shine when they get a call from them. Sometimes you have to look beyond your own self interests, it's a shame you're not willing to do that.
And don't come crying to us when you're inevitably stiffed by them. You think the literally hundreds of threads on this board about them not paying their notaries are lying? You think there's something "special" about you that you won't be one of them?
Quit while you're ahead sweetie.

Barbara and Calinotary are right. It is abuse.
I won't enable abusive behavior either. It's disgusting.
Abusers survive to continue abuse because they are enabled.
