Re: This is what is now occupying LOs time...Didn't you

respond to my question about a coffee burr-grinder. Coffee is good business and depending on where you are located it can be an outstanding business. The profit margins are excellent. I have an acquaintance who has a coffee kiosk here in the harbor and he brings down some serious money.

Yes I did...

.. but with a Charbucks on every corner, it's a difficult business to break into in this area. There's one guy locally who roasts his own and has been moderately successful, but the big gorilla from Seattle controls that market here. We don't have anything like a harbor area where you could set up a kiosk (other than the Hamptons, and you don't want to know what it costs to set up a business there...).

I buy green coffee and roast it myself for personal use, but roasting on a commercial scale is a whole other animal. Maybe I can start an online business selling this stuff...

Re: Yes I did...You know the story about the kings clothes

well, charbucks is a very appropriate name, I find that most of their coffees are badly burned. I like a strong cup of coffee but I don't like that nasty burned flavor and the bite that goes with it. I personally prefer to deal with private coffee houses. Hamptons, yeah, I've spent some time there, I have friends in the area but in my opinion there are nicer places about the same distance drive from the City like up in New England: Connecticut, Rhode Island ( I used to do Block Island every onece in a while). Unfortunately there are others who burn their coffee more. Thanksgiving Coffee Copmpany is just down the river and down wind from me and I can smell everythime they are burning their own coffee. I have had coffee in the major coffee centers of the world and they make strong coffee but they don't burn it. Sotty for the rant but in case no one guessed I hate burned coffee. Online is good!

Re: Yes I did...You know the story about the kings clothes

You should try roasting your own. A decent home roaster costs less than $200, but you can even use one of those air popcorn machines. It's amazingly simple to do, and the only way you'll burn the beans is if you do it on purpose or insist on doing a really dark roast.

Green beans are available online, and the selection is amazing. Check out http://www.sweetmarias.com/ - a wealth of information, plus they sell beans, roasters, grinders, etc.

Re: 38.555M [e-mail address], I've yet to make it out the window!

I either hit the ceiling, the floor or I get clobbered by the fan. The best I was able to get was crashing into the wall where the window is located. Grrrrrrr!
