This is why you pay for EXPERIENCE!!!
I received a call for a closing tomorrow night. While I am waiting for the confirmation to come through, it seems the borrower requested my info from the SS and called me. I hadn't even gotten the confirmation yet, it came through shortly after he called. He asked me about the closing and where I was from, I politely told him. He then asked if I KNEW what I was doing? I said yes explained to him my background and he then proceeded to tell me of a bad experience he had last time where the notary that was sent didn't even know how to open the edoc package, it took half a day and then she could not explain anything because she didn't know anything and proceed to joke about that fact, not to mention the paperwork went back with problems that had to be followed up on at a later date by the borrowers. I can see why the borrower wanted to feel me out first.
I hope some lenders realize that cheap does not equal experience. I just had another experience where the loan docs, which were not date sensitive, were sent to the borrower and he was told just take them to a bank or someone you know who is a notary and get them notarized. He ultimately found me and called me. He paid me directly and after it was over he said he was glad he found me because he would not have known how to navigate this paperwork and he didn't think just ANY notary would either. I thought that was very telling.

Who needs experience when you've got the XYZ asso. fast track to closing loans education?? While some of the knowledge they pass along is very sound, it isn't indepth enough for a green horn to understand how and/or what is expected of them at closings. I am personally a graduate of XYZ and know first hand that what they offered didn't prepare me for what was expected. I've had to learn on my own and from here and other sources what I need to do to close loans. XYZ is a joke. They are out for money, not the betterment of notaries everywhere. I've learned far more from here than I ever learned there. JMHO

I agree. Nothing compares to hands on. While yes I too took the XYZ course, it has not changed me or provided me with anything new. I learn more from asking my own questions in combination with what I already knew going in.
Like any job, you may have previous experience but you still need to learn how each company does their business. The XYZ course is more for the companies that expect it. What they don't know is that the course does not offer much in the way of field expectations, requirements and possible scenarios each NSA encounters. In fact the XYZ course actually had the answer to one of their questions wrong regarding WI's requirement for bond insurance. I had to call them and tell them, and then I referred them to the SOS’s office in WI for confirmation in case they didn't believe me.

And what does it tell you about their Certification exam if it's an open book one.??
