Top 10 SS non-payment excuses
After a few years in this business I sometimes get a chuckle out of the excuses I get when calling for payment.These aren't in any particular order, or based on the number of times I've heard them. Feel free to add your own unique BS excuses you've heard. I will leave out the usual BS ones we all hear, such as the check's in the mail etc.....Here we go.....
1." We are short handed in payroll right now, so we can't make any payments until she gets back"..(Only 1 person in payroll I guess...so I guess the employees aren't getting paid either).
2. " We had a death in the family, so once we get that taken care of, payments will resume"(HHMMM, Taken care of? The burial? trying to get the cold dead fingers off of the checkbook?I hope it wasn't their ONLY person in Payroll that could sign.see #8.
3." I know we paid you for that closing, right? " No, I just like calling you to see if you have a new excuse for me.
4. " Our payroll dept is closed on Fridays, she'll be back next week" When? " On Friday"....
5. " We'll Pay you when we get paid". The Title company says you were paid 6 weeks ago." Well, I don't think we cashed the check yet, I'll call you back" When? " On Friday " ( see #4)
6. " Our checkbook is missing at the moment, so I can't see if your payment has been sent" ( sounds like the friday person from above getting a head start out of the country with the funds)
7." I'll transfer you over to our A/P dept and they'll help you" click...zzzzZZZZZ ( must be friday )
8. " Only the owner can sign the checks, and he/she isn't in today"( I didn't ask who signs...I asked if it was sent... &%$*&#)
9." We Pay on the 15th and the 1st" Okay...so why wasn't this paid the previous 6 15th's or firsts? " let me transfer you to A/P"...oh oh it's friday....click
10." We are a little behind, but catching up quickly" you're 90 days behind, that's a "little"??.. " for us it is"

11. "We've had a problem in our accounting dept. The person that was taking care of it had to (____________) and now we have to hire someone else." "I promise the check will be out next Friday!" oh oh!

Don't forget the one where the employee embezzled the money - that SS used that same excuse for 2 years or more.

* We mailed it to the wrong address.
* Do we have a W-4 on you?
* It's sitting right here on my desk waiting for the tracking number. (60 days after service??)
* I don't know why we didn't pay you yet! We'll get right on that.
* The woman who accepted your fee no longer works here...I am not even sure that loan funded. I'll have to get back to you on it. (I contacted the lender and the Florida Title assn. over that one...got a check via DHL three days later but it was already 90 days late.)

I just "got" this one...
"It's obvious there is a communication problem on our end and we trying to get everyone paid. Please call either my partner or me ON OUR CELL PHONE and we will do our best to get back to you in a day or two". Gotta love it!
