Virginia Notaries- continuing education

Northern Virignia Community College is offering a Notary Signing agent course at Annandale for $35. Im mad cuz I paid that ridiculous price at NNA and I had a campus right down the street that does it for less.

Also I got a letter from Notary Law Institute but I dont know if that is a legitmate business/course. They have Notary courses. If its legit I guess I will take it next time they offer them.

Also I was thinking of taking a Paralegal certification course too. Its amazing Im trying to stay in school just to keep my school loans deferred. Ha, soon I will be like Lynn from Girlfriends show.....$100K in school loan debt with 20 degrees...lol

Are you crespa certified? If not, you should consider doing that now. There are several attorneys that have approached me to do VA closings in my area and they are requiring their notaries to get certified in order to keep working with them.

VA will end up just like MD, and I think it is going to happen sooner rather than later. So, I am working on my certification now.

You mean the bonds (fidelty and surety) and the errors and omissions insurance. Gonna be about $1,500 to do this. www.butlercompany.com is owned by Carol Butler, she is awesome, expensive but knows everything about getting certified. I emailed her and she helped me out, along with Shannon Blatt from VA. Beach.

a word of advice to you and anyone else considering a title producers course--find out if you will be able to obtain the required bond BEFORE you spend money on the course. Some people cannot and it will save you some heartache. I am in MD and can give you the info on the co. where I got my surety bond, it ran around $500 for 100k for 2 years. Good luck in your endeavors.

I am a title producer in Maryland and had no problem. You definitely have to have good credit to get the bonds. I have no problem.

Credit.....Assets....just putting it out there. Some people don't realize it might be a probelm til its too late. Costs $$$ to take TP course plus testing etc.

I got a call to do a signing in Kent County tonight, yuk!! I declined. 2 hour drive for me. I don't go more than 30 miles unless they give me $200.
