  What a day so far
Nothing but odd ball request. Do you carry 1/2 million in E&O insurance.. (Not worth the cost for the business you would get) I think only a handfull of Notaries carry it in NJ.
Then a phone call from a regular client, are you a lawyer (Why is it a purchase?) no its a refi but from Morgan Stanley and they want it closed by a lawyer. (HUH) I have done a ton a re-fi's that company and now MS wants lawyers only now for there work.
  todays lessons
Carry insane insurance limits.. dont think so Are lawyers even more desperate then notaries for work..lol

Well lets see..... I got called from ATM offering a closing 45 miles round trip for $45. Wow!! I told the scheduler that after I pay self employment tax, gas, tolls on turnpike, wear and tear on my car and perform the closing I basically would make a few $$. Not interested, who takes these fees?

$45 bucks?! Are they insane! Funny thing is someone will negotiate that deal and make 75 bucks the most to do it... noobs

The game has changed this year
When I first started the avg closing was 200-175 then 150-175 now if you can avg 125 and up you are doing well.
Companies are lowballing 40-50 plus 10-15 for edocs. If you figure out the total time and cost you might as well work @ Kmart or something like that, if you live the NY/NJ area. The cost of living dictates the cost of service. What flies in mid america may not in another part of the country.
Now if you run a full time business you need to find that magic number that gets you the calls and can still pay the bills. It seems the rules are changing again and only people with free time and don't care if its 40-50 bucks . I am see alot of clean-up work @ the EOM and it looks like I will see more and more of it.

Ohio isn't the place to be anymore - not that it was paradise before. When the phone does ring, it's for less than $100. I turned down 3 last week for distance. Did somebody mention paying the bills?? Sweatin' bullets here.

I've got one better. Got a call at 1:30 today to do a modification (of course only one signature--What a deal) for $25.00. Are they insane? I will not do it, I told them to find someone else.

I got a call like that today, too. For a location about 25 miles away. I wouldn't do that if it was right around the corner! And I think he said there were two signature to notarize. In CA, that would be a whopping $5 for travel fees... No thank you!

I received that 1/2 million dollar call on Friday. It was a Provident loan closing. The topic was discussed in details on the form the other day. The title company wanted me to sign as an "employee" of the Document Signing Service company although they are not our employers. The document signing service did not want me to do so since I am not their employee. Although, it was noted that "employ" means "to use" that is not how the Closing Certification form is drafted.
