11 AKAs !!!

Another one (had a couple previous) where computer limits caused all types of name variations.
Last name (changed to protect borrower) - Shivaramakrishna, first name Gucharin. Middle name had 8 characters.
Some MVAs computers can only take so many characters as last name. So, they chop off a couple. Some credit cards can take a different number, so they chop off some - but different number than the MVA. Some shorten the first name, not the last. Other ID - medical cards, bank accounts, etc do it their own way.
He had nothing with his full name spelled out !!!!.
He had to sign 11 AKA variations.

Thank goodness MD rules regarding ID are not CA rules - under CA rules, wouldn't have been able to complete closing.

That kind of thing is why we need to have some kind of ...

... consistent naming convention.

Some software can't handle people with one name ("Tree" is the official name of a lady I knew socially), some things can't handle names that are very short ("Ng" is the last name of a very nice family), and a lot of places can't cope with what to us in the United States are very long names.

It is _not_ a matter of "foreigners". We just need to accomodate as best we can while maintaining common sense.

??? Why not? As long as the name was on the driver's license that's all that would matter. I've seen driver's licenses where they use a second line for the names, so getting it all on there shouldn't be a problem.

Re: 11 AKAs !!! Calinotary

The ID that was closest to his last name on the docs was 2 letters short i.e. shivaramakris (na left off). I didn't think that would work in CA. From all the posting, more is acceptable, less is not as far as names on ID.

Ahhhhhhhh. I guess "MVA" didn't click with me, over here we call it the DMV.

If it were clear to me that the name was chopped of simply because the computer only allowed a certain number of characters I'd notarize it.
