The Older I'm Getting...
...the more I appreciate the music of Elvis. I can't say I was a big fan of his when he was in his prime, but Elvis really was the "King".

Re: The Older I'm Getting...
I agree Dennis. I wasn't a big fan either, but his voice IS really unique. We happened to be in Memphis one August seeing the Titanic display not realizing that the place would be jam packed with all kinds of Elvis's for the anniversary of his death. Fat, skinny, short, tall, white, black, asian, indian and everything in between. My kids were in 3rd & 4th grade at the time and they had no idea who Elvis was until that week-end. We went to Graceland and we were just amazed at how the people cry at his tomb. Some women were just in hysterics. It was an experience for sure.

amazed at how the people cry at his tomb. Some women were...
just in hysterics. I never cared for his music and his life was nothing to be proud of. He died a fat bloated drug user. People refer to him as "The KING"...and worship him almost as a G-d.
This is a prime example of how our society has deteriorated into 'idol worship' We no longer have any "heroes" in the public area like before (i.e. generals, politicians, philanthropists etc) but can't wait to hear the national news programs and their "Daily Brittany update". Now her sister (16 and the victim of statutory RAPE (any news on whether the BOY is going to be charged with statutory RAPE of a minor.....last time I checked it was a criminal offense.) Yes, I'm happy she is keeping the baby (it's the only innocent thing in this). But WHY are we holding her up as someone to be "Proud" of. The People at Nick at Nite haven't made the 'right choice' and fired her off the program yet and probably wont.
During the "olden days" (50s and 60s)...unmarried girls with babies being born out of wedlock were NOT held up as role models, but were subjected to SHAME and shunning from society. The girl was taken out of school, sent 'away' until the baby was born, and was not HONORED as doing something wonderful, but as having done something SHAMEFUL.
"Come back SHAME" (remember Alan Ladd movie?)....While it is wrong to punish ONLY the girl and not the boy in this manner, we should NOT make this a situation to be PROUD of. We should NOT have nurseries in the schools for the baby so Mom can continue school during the day. (That's what Moms, Grandmas and...if need be...the state is for).
Let's stop WORSHIPING the wrong thing in this society and start looking up to the RIGHT things....Parents, Pastors, Military members, Law Enforcement and Fire Fighters...
If we DON'T....then the wacky people of the world will continue to HATE the USA and find reasons to harm us.
Of course this is just my opinion from an old man....but it is MY opinion. Have a Blessed Christmas, Happy Festivus, a joyous New Year (Don't drink and drive)...and see you all next year. G-d Bless
"Doc"

stuart: how SEXIST? moms, grandmas? so the dad and grandp
as are NOT to take responsibility? and the girl is shamed and the boy denies anything and his life goes on and hers is supposed to stop because SHE got pg? he was as responsible and if she is not allowed to get an education cuz she is pg than what should his reprisal be?

a quote from my 'rant': While it is wrong to punish ONLY the
girl and not the boy in this manner, we should NOT make this a situation to be PROUD of...notice I didn't let the boy off the hook. As I stated in the missive (if you have read the WHOLE thing), the boy should be charged with statutory rape...held financially responsible for the child...and be as shamed as the girl. However, let's be realistic here. If the Boy wants her to keep the baby and she wants to kill it, he has no say in the matter because it's HER baby and not HIS. However, if she keeps the child, then he IS responsible for the care and upkeep (financially AND parentally) of the child as well. Oh No, the boy is NOT off the hook...but let's remember.....unless it's rape....SHE is utimately responsible since SHE is the one who gets pg (as some of you state).

Based on Where This Thread is Going...
...should we continue our discourse on "Just Politics" or "Leisure"? I can see both the political & the leisure side of this issue.

Elvis isn't King in My Life...
...as my reference to royalty was only that he was the king of rock 'n' roll. I'd also agree with your assessment of his lifestyle & he's not one to be emulated as a role model for our youth. There's a whole passle of singers I don't agree with when it comes to that issue.
Merry Christmas, Doc!

Re: amazed at how the people cry at his tomb. Some women were...
**Nick at Nite haven't made the 'right choice' and fired her off the program yet and probably wont. **
Nope...I figure there is a new reality show queen in the making. She'll be exploited for sure.
FWIW to Zee...to the amazement of most of our peers, my brother-in-law stayed home to take care of new granddaughter during weeks 8 and 9 after her mom's and grandmother's vaca/leave had run out and she wasn't old enough for daycare. You betcha Grandpa did his time, too!
My oldest stepson is poised ready at the moment to take full-time care of Baby #2 when he/she arrives (any minute now!) for at least a year at home. He runs his business from the house and Mommy goes back to work. We are waiting for the new arrival...still don't know what we've got yet.
The point of those comments is that while it's currently still not the norm for dads and grandpas to step in they do...and do a darn good job of it, too. I'm bragging a little. My dad was not a nurturing fool back in the day, but I guarantee you that the winds have changed in my family. The men are just as handy as the women.
My latest grandbaby won't go to daycare until he/she is too old to sleep while daddy programs websites and backpack along to short business meetings. My son has developed a very good business (http://texnetsol.com) while being a stay at home dad.
I think people are so in awe of him --a 6'5" hulk-- carrying around a little baby that it helps his business rather than hurts it.

Brenda/TX... and this is how in MO life should be .. It does
not matter if mommy or daddy or grandma/pa. The area I am from there are quite a few men that are the stay at home parent ............ I know it is not the 'norm' across the US
congrats on the new baby!

LOL Brenda.
Have you ever watched "Wings". It was the only movie to ever win an Academy Award for Best Production and the only movie to win an Academy Award for Engineering Effects.
That silent movie got me hooked on the silents. The only problem is you really have to watch them - no running into the kitchen to put the kettle on as you can't hear what is happening like todays movies.
Bruce's grandmother used to play the organ at the theater for silent movies.

Pooh is, like myself, getting a little older and slower but no one bothers me or my car when she is on duty. And Notary Dog is doing well I hope.

Notary Dog is fine, too. She's got Foxy (aka Corporal Fahd-ii) in her command now and between the two of them, things are a lot more orderly where safety is concerned. Thanks for asking.

Re: Good Morning - Sunday:) God Morning!!!
Wow!
His enthusiastic voice did shake many people’s moods. I enjoy very much Elvis’ personality on stage because his songs suggest love. Elvis occupied others with his sensational popular musical work.
