How much have you been stiffed so far?
I have been stiffed $400 so far by 3 SS's this year. Nothing the previous 4 years. How about you?

$225.00 from National Equity Services in Rochester, NY and, of course, our favorite ... Express Financial for $175.00. National Equity sent a letter on Friday stating, oh well, you're out of luck and we're not paying you ... but here is our attorney's address ... you can forward this letter to your attorney who can contact our attorney. Merry Christmas!

Owed $275. from US Title out of Cary NC - no longer in business and $150. from Dennis Scoggins, Professional Loan Signing Services, also no longer in business. Lesson learned? NO new signing services for me - just the few trusted ones I currently work for that pay as promised.

$125 from Express Financial. I have a couple very slow ones, but they do eventually pay. I feel very lucky.

Linda, give yourself some credit. You take responsibility for screening the companies you work for. You take responsibility for running your business as a business and use the tools available to all businesses . The result of running a good business is no losses and a good client base. It's hard work, but hard work pays off ...
We don't need any more laws, we have plenty. We have plenty of tools to collect if necessary. We have the same laws that other businesses use to collect past due accounts. Notaries need to take some responsibility for screening the companies before taking the work. How is SOX still in business? And if a company that has been good in the past begins to get longer in paying you or maybe they bounce a check then you need to step back and take a look at it and decide if you are going to continue to work for them before you get thousands of dollars in the hole. There are always warning signs, some subtle, some in neon. Come on people, grab a hold of your business and run it instead of waiting for Big Brother to pass a law to "protect you".
Oh, just for the record, my unpaid accounts so far this year = $0.

Re: Okay Glenn..point taken - but I also give credit where
credit is due - Notary Rotary has been an immense help to me - without this board and the members' willingness to share info I know my receivables wouldn't be as clean as they are.
Thank you everyone..

Re: Okay Glenn..point taken - but I also give credit where
I've been in business 8 years only two SS $200.00 each which happened in May/June. I've always been reluctant to work for SS, it was a moment of weakness I agreed to work for PDS and Nexus, got stung, so my rule of working for title companies is steadfast. Most put me on the HUD so I'm paid upon funding.

I time in 4 years- I feel so very lucky! Angels On The Run- out of business. Only $75.00 for an overnight HELOC package. I am started to keep a copy of the settlement statements from SS- so if I have to I can goto the TC or Lender.

$300...$100 from Dennis Scroggins (Professional Loan Signing Svcs) who had the nerve to email me that he had been sick and was sending the check out the next day (which I never received.) And $200 from a local TC who's loan was cancelled by the lender in August and never funded even thought they signed (1st and 2nd)! I'm grateful for this web site to avoid future deadbeats!

I have received payment for each job in the more than four years I have been a NSA. That is, until this year and there have been two - All Pro Signing Solutions for $175 and EFS for $175. Like so many others here, I prefer working with TC's, but there are some very good SS's; ie, PC Mobile Notary, Hatton, etc.
