I cried most of the way home...
while I'm happy that biz has picked up quite a bit over the last two weeks, I also am constantly reminded of other's miseries. I did a R/M this afternoon with a borrower and paused the signing ten minutes into it so that he could 'just talk . I knew he needed to talk. It was one of the saddest experiences I've ever had as a notary public. He lost the love of his life and was down visiting his daughter for Christmas from PA. He told me about the 37 years of marriage and how he thought he'd be the first to go. He loved her with all his heart and never imagined his life without her. He is a devout Christian and sings in church as a soloist. What a sad and endearing story that he says his life has been and has become. It took all the strength I had not to break down at the table. He also had a beautiful signature that I commented on. He looked at me with tears in his eyes and thanked me for the compliment. His reply was "most people just scratch their name out quickly, I draw mine"....

So sad I find many seniors lonely and we end up a social worker as well as closer. I met the sweetest lady who's children weren't there to help her. She had problems with a water main in her house and had thousands of $$ in water bill there was no one to help her. I felt terrible. I have a 89 yr old Mom I would never leave alone like that. Most seniors we meet in a RM are in that situation, I wish them well.

The wonderful part for this reverse mortgage business is chatting with our customers, isn't it? I don't get to spend the amount of time you are able to, but when I pick up the call and you can tell they'd just like to talk for awhile, it's like an oasis in the day - such a pleasure.

Diane...
I must have given you the wrong impression...
your comment -- "I don't get to spend the amount of time you are able to"
in my book (of life), I never have the time, but in special circumstances, I make it and something else has to take the 'backseat'.
