Marriage in Florida

What the heck is going on down there in Florida? I'm watching O'Reilly and they are talking about some woman down there who has married 20 different illegal aliens so they can stay in the country. Apparently the majority of them were wed by notaries. O'Reilly was saying whoever these notaries are are going to get a visit by the authorities. LOL, it's always the notaries fault.

Before a notary performs a wedding in Florida, he/she has to check the license. If they have a marriage license then the notary did nothing wrong.

My son was married in Feb. by a notary in Florida! Go figure I am a notary in Ohio and we cannot marry!

Only Maine, S. Carolina, Florida and one parish in LA allow notaries to officiate at weddings.

The woman who married 20 times, apparently the same notary performed 2 of the marriages in the same week! Now that notary will probably have some explaining to do.

I would think that the clerk of the court and court administrators where these marriage licenses were issued would have more questions to answer than anyone.

Re: Like O'Reilly would have a clue.

After seeing the original message I watched the late night edition of O'Reilly.
It was someone from Dade county who said that the notaries could expect a visit from the authorities or from her herself. (I think she was a newsperson).

Bill was just basically asking questions on it.

Sounds like what I said in the original post. Notaries could expect a visit from authorities. Was I wrong in my original post?

Re: Like O'Reilly would have a clue.

I believe you said O'Reilly said the notaries would be getting a visit from the authorities.
The woman he was interviewing was the one who said it. And she is probably right.
How can someone perform a marriage ceremony wth the same woman twice in one weeK without thinking "hey, something is wrong here" - and what county clerk would issue a license to the same woman allowing her to get married more than once.

Not being picky or anything but watch the segment again. O'Reilly did say the notaries would be getting a visit from the authorities. Not that it matters who said it.

It says in the paper and on Fox the same notary

officiated twice in one week over one of this woman's marriages. I would think license or not, if the same woman shows up in a week with a different guy to marry that should ring a bell somewhere with the notary.

Obviously someone "greased" the notary's hand.

The clerks should be more vigilant. All one has to do, apparently, is go to the clerk of the courts office and fill out the application and swear that the information is true and the clerk will issue the license.

Hopefully the notary isn't too "greasy" when the cops show

up to ask him/her about this. I'd hate for those cuffs to slip off.
