OK NNA, Explain this too me me
I got one of a endless stream of flyers today. On page one, a sub header, your booklet claims, "Changes in the lending industry have created an urgent need for NNA Certified and Background Screened Notary Signing Agents."
Pray tell, what are these CHANGES?????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Re: OK NNA, Explain this to me
Maybe the change is the amount of foreclosures past due mortgages... and the money from the enrollment fees might be the urgent need of certified nsa's. just a guess.

Re: OK NNA, Explain this too me, Actually the changes
are that notary signer wannabes who took the classes and couldn't make it are dropping like flies and not renewing thei r memberships. The NNA needs to maintain a certain level of membership to stay as profitable as it has in the past. The reduction in signers must be a major crisis for them.

They are talking about the background check provision of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (that was pased when, 1999? Not sure, but I know it's been a while). And by the way this statement is worded, it is my opinion that they are trying to convince less than knowledgeable notaries that the NNA is the only organization that can perform this task.
Disclamer: JHMO, but I bet anyone with half a brain can read the intent in this statement.

And yes, the final intent is $$$$$$$

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I learned in High School many moons ago that the people that supply the workers are the ones that make the money. Prime example is the Gold rush. Sure some miners struck it rich, but Levi Strauss did better than most of them. I do think that the people that matter are getting wise to the NNA, hopefully our elected officials will follow suit.

Re: I have a good one for you
I'm still a member - went to update my service area on their website the other day - website told me I could do signings in GA (attorney-only state) - I e-mailed them with the info that GA is an attorney-only state - got a thank you in return and it's been turned over to their IT department - now what would have happened to a signing agent that didn't know better??...Jeesh!!

Yes, I bought a notary stamp thru them... It was not acceptable for Texas. I emailed them and never rec'd a reply. I returned it w/an explanation and example of the correct Texas stamp and they still charged me part of the cost.....huh?

Re: I have a good one for you-Theory
I would take bets that the NNA is going to bite on the UCI. They will either use them to promote why a person should get their already existing certification and BGC or they will add a new certification for covering the UCI. Anyone want to lay bets that they are working on the curriculum as we speak for the new test?

I find it very significant that the NNA is not named
anywhere among all the various trade associations, supporters or participants that have their names attached to the UCI. Since this project is claimed to have begun 18 years ago - it definitely didn't crop up overnight or by surprise.
I have to assume there are reasons for this, and sure look forward to finding out what they are.

What a bunch of Cry Babies. Get use to it. The Industry is changing. Many are now doing this work to supplement their income. A lot of you have made a killing doing signings (and keeping it a secret) and do this as a full time job. I would never rely on signings as my sole income but this is a great way to supplement a retirement income. The NNA is a great orginazation that provided me the information and training to get started in this business. After I was certified and listed with their site I have all the business I want.

Michael,
I am semi-retired also . This thread has to do with ethics. If you have followed this for a while, you would understand that. I let my NNA membership lapse because of some of their business prictices, which are , in my opinion, somewhat questionable. If you search any board, not just tihs one, you can see what I am talking about.
As far as business, the relationships I have formed on this and a couple of other boards have been the lasting and well paying ones, while the calls I received from the NNA seemed to be from the companies that had some issues, among them offering $50 signings and compaines that have a record for not paying. SOX got my information from the NNA ......
Yes, the business is changing. It has changed many times before and will change many times again. I will adjust until I decide to retire completely. And during this change there are some notaries, companies, and organizations that need to go away.....................

Glenn,
There are bad companies advertising on this site also (reference your comment about SOX). Dean Notaries (advertising on this site as a Premier member) is owned and operated by Keith Dean who also owned and closed United Notarys owing many people money (including myself). A person has to pick and choose who they work for when someone calls for your service. When your info is on anybodys web site any company can retrieve it and call you. It is not the NNA's fault. I think alot of people don't like tne NNA because it does add compeition to the industry.

Come on, Michael. It's not just bad companies listed on various web sites that bother me. That is all over. Its the NNA's inference that only THEIR training is valid, that only THEIR backgrounds checks are industry accepted and only THEIR loan certification training is valid. They have been around since the late 1950's and at the time the only national organization out there to support notaries. And over the next couple of decades, did an outstanding job. But, over the past few years, they have evolved into an organization that does not support notaries any longer, but is just in it for the bucks. Dissatisfaction with the NNA has caused other organizations to spring up to fill the notary support position vacated by the NNA. It wasn't the NNA that sprung up to create competition. You are sounding like a representative of the NNA. Are You?
Legal Disclaimer: Just my honest opinion.

Several years ago I got a letter in the mail about notary classes in my area which would have led the novice to believe that they were the only organization authorized to conduct the classes to become a notary.
I prefer the American Society of Notaries and faithfully renew my membership when due. If you want an organization that cares about the notary, then the ASN is the one to join.

The concept of what the NNA is escapes this person, like the joke about the ceiling, it is over his head:-)

No, I am not working for the NNA. I am just a satisified customer who thinks this forum needs a fair and balanced discussion. All I have ever read on this site is NNA bashing. As I said before, the NNA training and listing has helped me. I shopped many sites that advertised training and listings. I happened to choose the NNA and I am completely satisified.
As far as losing some integrity for the dollar, this site has lost some. I asked the owners of this site the following regarding Dean Notaries. "How can you allow a person/company that cheated many, many notaries out of earned money to become a premier member on this site?" The reply was "We will look into it." Well, Dean Notaries is still listed here.
My point is there is no or very few sites that does "everything" with 100% integrity. This is the world we live in.

**All I have ever read on this site is NNA bashing.**
And because of the way they are perceived by readers here you will continue to see bashing...I don't think there is anything they can do now to change this perception.
I guess all the rest are wrong and you are right, huh, Michael? Sure they are...those bad, bad cry babies. Dream on, buddy. Enjoy your satisfaction while it lasts.
