Opinions on best route East
Well, we bought a place in TN and will be heading out next week. I'm getting opinions on best (wintertime) routes from Sacramento to Nashville. I will be traveling with dogs and pulling a bumper pull trailer. Mapquest shows 80, others say 40 or 10. Is there a website that shows best routes at certain times of the year? I sure don't want to hit any snow storms.
Green acres is the place to be.....(I hope!) TIA.

If it were me and I was leaving tomorrow ...
I would probably just go down the 5 or 99 to the 40. There is a storm that its coming in Monday that would be chasing me and if it did catch up, then I might drop down to the 10 if necessary. Most of Oklahoma is still digging out of that ice storm and the following snow storm from the past week and that is the 40. However, the 40 is open now. But right now, the real bad winter weather is up in the northeast.
However, leaving tomorrow, you would be between storm fronts and 40 would probably be good.
When I plan a trip in iffy weather, I usually go to weather.com or weatherbug.com
Have a nice trip ..

Twenty years ago I left San Ramon for East Tennessee. I stopped in Ramona (SoCal) to see my Grandma before I left so I took 10 and headed North to 40 somewhere in the panhandle area of Texas. Arkansas was a beautiful state to drive through, everything was sooooo green. Personally, I would stay away from 80 in the winter. AAA offers a great trip service for members.

Avoid Arkansas if possible...
the Ozark Mountain roads are trecherous this time of year, winding and ill-maintained. Like Becca, I recommend calling AAA. Also, if you have a GPS, it may offer updated service telling you which routes to avoid due to construction, weather, etc.

You got that right, Lisa--Avoid Arkansas if possible...
Altho' it's green & beautiful right now...all it takes is a bit of rain & low temps and you've got a recipe for disaster. With 3 flakes of snow...everyone stays home & with good reason.

Watch weather carefully as each I route (40 70 80) has
problems. 80 and 70 are both subject to closure because of winds and or snow. Not great to pull a trailer through...

We made the move from SoCal to KY in the winter. Best route is the 40, from So Cal. Takes you all the way to Tennessee!

P.S.
We had a dog, kids, truck pulling a recreational trailer and a 20 foot moving truck. The most difficult part was driving through Flagstaff - lots of snow and a steep downhill grade.
