Turbo Tax/Other
For those of you who use Turbo Tax, does Turbo Tax ask specific questions about "Notary" fees. I understand that the actual per signature fee is not subject to self employment tax, yet it is subject to your personal tax. I'm wanting a program to help me out am trying to decide on one. I know that you all mentioned Turbo Tax a few posts ago and seems like you liked it. Will it help me separate things between my EIN and SSN? Was it pretty easy to use? Info on other tax programs that you liked/didn't like would be much appreciated as well!!
Thank you so much!!

I have always liked Turbo Tax and have used it to do my family member's taxes. It does specifically ask you if the money you earned was for Notary. I have not used it to do my own taxes in about 3 years. I prefer to use Tax Cut. (H&R Block) Reason being is if I have any questions or concerns, I can speak with a live Tax Preparer at Block. I use their signature version on line. I do all of the date entry and send it to them so they can look it over. Once they say everything looks good, they actually sign the return as if they prepared it. I started doing this ever since I had a few underwriters question my self prepared taxes. (while in the process of re-financing, purchasing home..both myself and my husband are in the real estate/loan business) Although I had nothing fishy about my taxes, I learned that the question doesn't even pop up when someone else has prepared my taxes. Hope this helps. Happy New Year! :0)

I've used TaxAct online for the last five years. It takes a while to go through the forms, but you can reveiw/change until the cows come home, it's been free for the fed, and the state return is around $10-15.
I had to change a few entries when late 1099s came in, and it was so easy. Also, each subsequent year, your old info is already there, so all you do is make any changes if you moved, etc.
I really like the program, and it does ask about notary fees, excluding them from the SS taxed income.
Also easy was setting up your estimated taxes for the following year.
You also have the option of printing returns to mail yourself, or filing on line.
Easy, easy, easy.

I love TaxAct!
I've been using it for a few years. It has a question and answer process similar to Turbo Tax. But TaxAct is free. Gotta love that!
I found out about it from Clark Howard.

I have used Tax Act for about 5 years....and was considering using Turbo Tax this year. (people say that save a lot of money with Turbor Tax???) Have anyone used both? I dont want to waste money on Turbo Tax around $80 vs. Free for Tax Act (you do have to pay for State to be included; and for the State file- comes out to like $30.00) Any suggestions from a person that has used both???? I am just trying to make sure that I am getting all of my deductions from Tax ACt? TIA

I have used TaxCut from H&R Block since it has been on the market and have been very happy with it. I also know a lot of people who use Turbo tax and are just as happy with it. I think it just depends on what you used first. I have family that works for Block so that's why I used it first. I actually used the first "beta" version ....
I do know someone who was audited with the free Tax Act program and they ended up paying more tax with penalty because the program miscalculated a couple of things. I guess you get what you pay for. I had one audit with TaxCut and it was dead on ..... (I had a lot of deductions from a rental house I had at the time and it set a flag at the IRS so I was audited. The program warned me when I filed, so I was expecting an audit).
