fax vs scan
Instead of faxing docs, I've had good luck with scanning docs and e-mailing them. Haven't had anyone object. They also like the fact blue ink show as blue.
Anyone ever do this and have to fax anyway?

What kind of equipment do you use to scan? If you scan one page at a time it can be pretty time consuming. Do you have a scanner where you can feed multiple pages? From the Title end I would think scanning is a huge benefit as they can hard print much better copies than any fax would generate.

I have been doing this a lot lately. I have efax- which charges per page to fax. Incoming is free for so many pages received. I do not have a land line phone--- so that if how I justify the $16.95 per month efax fee. However, I am looking into some cheaper alternatives for internet faxing. I have a Brother MFC machine and it scans about 30 pages per minute....pretty fast. So I have been emailing any fax back requirements....my fees are down by $10-$15.00 per order....so if it requires a fax back I just email it. Most companies have fax to scan....so even if you use a traditional fax, chances are the person is getting it in their email in- box anyway....so it is just the same to email vs faxing it.

I use Maxemail to send any faxes. However, I do have to scan to a file before doing so. They charge $0.10 per minute of transmission time, instead of per page like E-Fax does. So, if I only fax two pages, and it sends in less than a minute, I'm charged $0.10 for both pages
I also try to scan and e-mail back instead of faxing. I have a document feeder on my scanner. If you have an all-in-one unit, hopefully that unit has an auto-document feeder and scanning wouldn't be too bad. However, I don't scan in color that takes longer per page, so I do everything as black and white and text. Scans faster.

Scanback services
Art, I've been offering scanback service as an alternative to fax backs for a couple of years now. Not only has it been well-received, but it adds nicely to my ancillary income.
Usually, all you have to do is ask the TC if they'd like the entire, fully executed package scanned and emailed to them within 2 hours of closing so they can begin their post-closing duties ASAP rather than wait on FedEx the next day (or two) later. I charge a nominal fee for the service, and more often than not the Escrow Agent is thrilled with the result.

I may be wrong but I understood that faxing is legal because the copy indicates fax number, date and time stamp, and therefore verifiable.
Scanning does not have the above. But I would rather scan and email than fax. I'll try scanning next time they need fax-backs. Would work for me just fine.

Re: fax vs scan legalities
I have no idea as to what constitutes "legal", as I am not an attorney, and frankly couldn't care less. The reason I offer scanback service to my Escrow Officers is so that they may get a head start on the post-closing process, knowing that the original executed documents will arrive the next business day. It's especially convenient for them at EOM. Oh, and I like the little extra on my check, too :p~~

Re: fax vs scan legalities
What kind of fee might a package of 130/150 pgs., scanned, call for.? Or would that just be the *legals* and what might that fee be.?
