scanner/copier

I need some advice from those of you that may have some experience with copiers/scanners. I’m talking about full sized machines, not desktop models.
I need a scanner that will scan legal and letter (loan packages) It needs to be a flatbed, and I need to be able to load at least 100 pages (again loan docs) must be ‘network’ compatible. (I need to scan loan docs {post close, after clean out} and email them to the lender, plus make copies) I can lease one for $100 a month, but I think I’d rather buy one? Any suggestions?

I have a Brother MFC 8460 N. It has the legal size glass for scanning. I haven't tried scanning to e-mail but I'm sure it will work. And it can be networked. I decided on this one after going to the web sites for the different brands and comparing machine to machine as well as price.

I have an HP8250, Les, and it's worth its weight in gold! It certainly isn't a cheap-o, but it'll do exactly the job you describe. I've had mine for over two years, and it keeps plugging along. The only part I've had to replace is the feeder wheel thingy, about $35.

I have mine for the exact purpose you've stated and it's paid for itself several times over.

When you are talking about big time machines...you may want to lease reather than buy. The maintenance can kill you in the long run. You are running a busienss with it....the $100.00 per month is an expense(tax deduction) ....I know you have to put it out....however be careful buying and have to be responsible for fixing all of the problems....and it could take many service calls to get it networked right and running the way you want to. Good luck!

Thanks guys!
I understand the lease is a write off...but so is the ownership... it may have to be depreciated etc.. depending on your accountant... I just think leasing anything is a bad deal. The "maintenance" is something I had not considered. I now have a Canon PC 11 copier about 10 years old.. I love it. It's paid for itself many times over. I also have a HP 1320 tn printer (love it too!) and a Brother HL 5170DNTL dual tray, and a HP 3015 (fax, scanner, copy) that I use only as a dedicated fax. the maintenance on all these machines has been ...nothing...except for ink. (I don't consider that maintenance.) I really like the HP products.. they may cost a bit more, but are dependable. In this business one can't tolerate "mechanical" problems...We have enough other 'stuff' to deal with. Anyway.. thanks for the input..Just so you know we are looking to expand in 2008. IMO there is business out there, and for the "old pros" is should be a good year (Don't quote me!!)

The lease will also require a monthly maintenance fee starting at $79.00 per month (it can be more depending on the machine) and they increase it every year.

Looks like you've covered all your bases. I've found HP to be a great company that stands behind their products. You can also get good replacement deals to upgrade your current equipment - and they pay for the return shipment of your old equipment too.
