Adobe printing prob. 2nd tray
After all sorts of other probs (including a defective tray) I finally have my Bro MFC8220 all (re) set up. It works fine with Word, but with adobe, it will not pull from the 2nd tray. Bro says call adobe, Adobe says pay us, Sooo I'll check here first! Anyone know what I need to do?

Which version of Adobe? Is the "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size" box checked? If not, be sure it is. Also, check "Printer Properties" and make sure "Auto Select" is chosen for the "Source Tray is:" drop down.

Weird. Maybe it's the PDF file you're trying to print. Try this little test file: http://pawnotary.com/download/testfeed.pdf

That didn't work either
Everything comes from tray 1.

Re: That didn't work either
Do you have tray 1 configured for letter and tray 2 configured for legal? I've had people tell me that it won't work the other way around.
Which printer driver (PCL5, PCL6 or PS) are you using? I'm guessing it's installed with the PCL6 driver, which is what it should be.
This is the last I can offer as suggestions since I don't have that printer. (I'm an HP shop!)

Re: That didn't work either
I did have it legal in no.1. I switched it around, but still it will only pick up tray 1. errrrrg. Why does everything have to be so difficult!!!! It is pcl 6 compliant. Thanks for trying HP is what I'm gonna get next time!

Also Christi
I'm also suspecting there could be defect chip or hardware circuit on the printer itself.

Is the printer PCL compliant for DOS or windows?
Mine is PCL6 for DOS. Which means that windows-based applications (such as Adobe) aren't read correctly & have to be either manually switched (I go through & print groups of pages based on paper size) or printed on all legal. Programs that direct-print (elynx) pull properly from the correct tray.

Ditto PAW...HP shop, lol...Christi
I know you've had this problem for quite sometimes. The problem you described seems to be a driver issue with your printer as it would correctly pick the trays to print from Word, but not Adobe. Have you check Brother website for the latest driver? Sometimes the cd that come with the printer could be a year old and they have updated to their support website after the fact.

Yeah, this is the same stupid printer! Brother told me to call Adobe- it was their side that was the prob. I'll go try the driver now and let you know. Thanks

Christi - another suggestion. I had this same problem with my printer and finally figured out if I did this, it worked.
Go to Control Printer - Printers. Click on the Printer that you are using. When the Printer window comes up, click on Printer, then Properties. Go to Accessories tab. See if it has your tray 2 in the Available options side. If you do, click Add and it should show up on the Installed side. Then make sure on the Paper Source settings, Tray 1 is set to Letter and Tray 2 to Legal.
Hope this works for you.

Have done all suggested and still no go...MFC 8220
What a pain! I'm hoping it's not a bad chip, but I'm losing hope! Oh well, at least it does print now. It would have been so nice not to have to manually do letter to legal. Frustrating, but I can work. Time to start saving for a new printer! If anyone else has any ideas,I'd be more than happy to try 'em Thanks all.

Tell Brother that
it most certainly is not an Adobe problem as you get the same problem with a test file that hundreds of people have used successfully and it does the same thing.

Re: I'll call them in the morning, they're closed now. :(
Hi Christi, I feel your pain. I have the same printer and installed the 2nd tray. It took hours to figure it out. What I can tell you is - yes it works, I've been totally satisfied.
I do remember when I got the 2nd tray, it was a nightmare to set-up. I worked for hours on this, just clicking everywhere. All of a sudden, it just worked. It does depend on the file you're trying to print.
Make sure you have "installed the 2nd tray" and the device settings reflect "tray on" and both trays need to be designated. I have legal in tray 1 and letter in tray 2. The only problem I have had with this printer is jams (using generic supplies). But since I have ordered from a website recommended by Misty in FL, I have had no problems. I LOVE my Brother MFC8220. Good luck and don't give up!

Print out the config page from the printer itself to see if there is something there...
Good Luck...

8220
FYI. I have the 8220 and dual trays (legal on the bottom). It works like a charm and even better with Abode 8.0. I only mention this so you know it will work. Perhaps have Brother's walk you through an install from start to finish. Ask them to help you delete the current software and print drivers and re-install with them on the phone. You need to use the CD when you install the second tray to load the relevant print driver.

ummmm
No one at brother or on the instructions ever said to use the CD when installing the 2nd tray. I will do as you suggested and let you know. Thanks! Raimond, I couldn't see anything on the config page that helped, but thanks. Blueink, I did do all the device setting stuff, wish I could find the magic button you found!

YAAAY.... Success!
After deleting & installing both Adobe and the printer. Then deleting & reinstalling the printer AGAIN. It now works. Why it didn't work with the first delete-reinstall, but did with the second is beyond me... NOW, bring on those e-docs! Thanks all for the ideas and support, I'd have pulled all my hair out by now without ya!
