Day vs. Evening. Thoughts...
Happy Valentines Day All!
I was hoping to get your input on an issue beginning to give me a little grief. My daughter is going to be starting school in September. Up to this point I've loved my job because it allowed me to spend my days at home with my daughter. I advertise as being available during the evenings and I've been lucky to be able to stay home with my daughter during the day and still make an okay living. Clearly this will change when she starts school. My evenings will become more important to me and I'm going to want to change my schedule to days. Knowing that evenings are the bread and butter, I'm wondering the likelihood of making similar money on a daytime schedule. Anyone out there having success with a daytime focus?

I can't imagine that a person could be successful at this job if they're only available during the days. Face it, we're usually working around other people's work schedules and that means a lot more evening appointments than daytime appointments.
I'm sure you can still make some money here and there, but I would guess you'll see at least a 50% drop in business.

I do quite a few day time appointments but I am not looking to do this full time, so it works for me.
Many people do this as a second job so they may only be available evenings, meaning there may be a limited number of us available during the daytime hours. So make your daytime availability known to your frequent customers and maybe this will pan out for you.
Good luck!

Yes, I was thinking about a 50% drop also...
Perhaps it's time to work on building the general notarization biz... I've never really gone after the daytime biz... I guess it's time for a new business plan... Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.. Have a great Valentines Day!

Iwent from being a part-tmer (evenings only) to a full-timer about 3 yrs. ago. I'd have to say that 75% of the closings are still in the evening due to the bo's being home then. Also depends on your area and how much competition you have. Another notary was under the impression this was a "9-5" job (thanks to the NNA) and has since found out the $ is in the evening closings. Primetime is still "5-9".

I have quite a few during the day owing to folks working evening shifts, etc. Signings you'll see mostly during the day are purchases, since they are usually at a broker's office

Re: Day vs. Evening. Thank you!
Your question prompted me to do a rough analysis of my 2006 appointments. 47.4% of the times were between 4:00 PM and 7:59 PM. 3.81% were between 8:00 PM and 9:59. 46.71% were between 8:00 and 3:59.
Keeping track of appointments in an Excel spreadsheet makes such calculations a breeze! If you need help, just drop an email to me....
