It's not just XYZ
I just took a look at the Adult-Ed courses being offered at the local high school, and found this gem listed under "Personal Enrichment" - this is verbatim:
**************** Notary Signing Agent Course
Discover a rewarding career as a notary signing agent in the lending industry! Be your own boss either part-time or full-time. This course is designed to equip you with the essential skills you will need to properly perform loan document signings. Topics covered include document preparation, identifying documents in a loan packet and the various loan types, proper execution of documents, what is expected of the signing agent (your responsibilities and limitations thereof), lender lingo, identifying individuals, current industry trends, and where and how to find work. (Signing Companies will be provided as possible leads).
Fee includes a full-year placement on our website's signing agent section and a full take-home packet.
Prerequisite: Be a commissioned New York State notary public or have at least attended or completed a notary public training course prior to taking this course.
****************
All this in 2 hours on one night, for the princely sum of $52. I have no idea what the instructor's qualifications are, or what web site is involved - she is simply listed as an MBA. I almost tempted to attend, just for the chance to heckle...

Just think No nights, No ER calls and long lunches. WOW ! What a deal and you get initials after your name. Does that sound like another "deal" we all know. lol

I see it now, Teddog, NP, NSA, DSE, OGS
DSE ~ Document Shredder Extraordinaire, Order Of The Golden Stamp. Please feel free to use any or all. I have decreed thusly by the powers vested in me by the great Omnium Notarius Ominus. Hows the weather up in your neck of the woods Teddy? I hope you are getting some of those crystal clear mountain days that follow the storms.

Been there done that don't want to ever have to work in that kind of weather again. I love it it when I'm up skiing and do not have to be somewhere on a schedule. Do likewise! TTFN

Three hours - $20
After reading your post, I happened to read my local adult continuing ed & found the following:
*Notary Signing Agent Course
Are you a Notary and are looking for a part-time job with full-time pay? Learn how to be a successful Notary Signing Agent. This class will provide a walk through closing from start to finish. Topics will include: loan documents; registering with Signing Companies; accepting the assignment through finishing the assignment and getting paid. A list of signing companies will be provided for you as possible leads.
I wonder if every high school on Long Island is offering this, or if this is just a coincidence. I especially like the part about part-time job with full-time pay. I hope the teacher will explain about the expenses of running your own business. Also funny is that they are going to teach how to get paid. I guess a three hour course will include collections 101 as well.

Re: Three hours - $20
"I wonder if every high school on Long Island is offering this, or if this is just a coincidence."
From what I've seen, most adult ed courses here on LI seem to be the same from district to district, so I don't think it's a coincidence. I just wonder how qualified the instructors are - there was no indication whether the one teaching the course in my district was even a notary, and I did not find her name listed as an NSA on the boards I checked.
"I especially like the part about part-time job with full-time pay."
Yeah, that oughta bring them out of the woodwork...
