Legal size paper at Sam's Club

I was over at Sam's in Moreno Valley to buy the new "Vista" and letter size paper and noticed they now have full cases of legal at $32.88. This is a pretty good price, 92% bright.

What does everyone think of the Vista upgrade?

I'm trying to get the courage to install it because I had some unbelievable issues with windows 98 and I have never felt confortable with upgrading a computer.

My son said: Well if you have issues why don't you just buy a new computer with Vista installed?

Is this buying of a new computer a much better idea? Is it starting to be a better idea to toss the old computer, like we do a printer that needs to be fixed.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

To upgrade or not upgrade, that is the question. Yes!

I only upgrade when ..

I see some issue coming down the road where I need to. I have a friend that bought a new computer with Vista and I had a chance to play with it and I do like it a lot, but when I come to spending my own money, I balance needs vs wants. And right now I don't need it and I would rather spend the money restoring my '67 Mustang....

Thanks for the reply

I have an XP computer but have never been comfortable using an upgrade and as my son said "why did you buy the upgrade?" Yeah!! This is a real DUH on my part.

Keep the XP computer.

Never be the first on your block to buy a new version of anything on which you rely for your livelihood.

Joan

I got a new computer last summer, (not with Vista) I didn't throw away my old ('03) one. I did however give it to my 12 year old. I still have it in case of emergency. The new system is somthing I have had to learn my way around but it has made work so much easier. Be sure that what ever you buy the soft ware isn't only good for a 30 day trial. Sounds like a no brainer but I didn't think of it.
Good luck!

Vista and older PCs

Before even attempting to install Vista on an older PC, you should get and run the Upgrade Advisor from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx

Also, be aware that not all software programs and peripherals are compatible with Vista yet. There have been reported issues with some of the HP printers, for instance. My feeling is that, unless you're buying a new PC, you don't need Vista now - and especially not on a computer you use to run your business. As the saying goes, you can always tell who the pioneers are - they're the ones with the arrows in their backs...

Re: Vista and older PCs

I had news radio on while on the road recently and heard a MS expert being interviewed abou the new Vista. His take: you should only upgrad if you are dealing with a very new PC - as in purchased within the last month or so. Otherwise, he said if you are buying a new one, definitely get Vista as it is much better, but too risky to run on older equipment or to try to transfer/upgrade from older versions. I'm only repeating what I heard and I'm no expert, so this is just FYI for anyone who is thinking about running out to upgrade!

Re: Be careful about the upgrade though

"they" say that you need some very specific capabilities on your hard drive to run Vista. Better to make sure you have the capability before you buy...

good point... computer companies are selling computers with

software only 30-days and than you purchase so they cut the prices by eliminating software licenses....
