Re: Addition to business
Glad to hear your co. is growing. I read that you are now starting Civil Process Serving. I was a Certified Process Server for seven years before I started this business and I have to tell you it was some job. Talk about stressfull depressing interesting and time consuming all wrapped up into one. I don't know how much experience you have in the Process Serving field but Please don't ever think it is easy and make sure you have read all laws pertaining to this field. I could go on with alot of stories but I don't want to take up the whole board with them. I would offer you my help but I don't know the Laws in Texas only in Florida and yes again all states have different laws. Why can't every state just put the same laws into place sure would make easier. OK so I tell you one Story this was a fun one. I was contracted by an attorney who wanted to serve Jerry Springer for the Murder case that happened after he had the couple on his show about four years ago. Jerry Springer was going to be at the Red sox summer camp baseball field to promote his show and hand out bobble head dolls of himself. I was told to make sure I served him in front of the media. I was given tickets for the game so my Husband and I went to the field stood in line for the bobble head dolls I was also told to make sure that I got a bobble head for the Attorney. Waited in line for twenty minutes got up to Jerry Springer Media taking all kinds of pictures and proceeded to tell him about the case but he refused to take the Summons so I had to drop the papers at his feet now this was done in front of all the media and about 1400 hundred people that wanted bobble head dolls. I became famous in my town for doing this and having my name and picture in the paper didn't help because now if I wanted to serve anyone I would have to change my appearence just to get them to open the door. With that said Goodluck to your new adventure! You may email me if you would like to know more.

Re: Addition to business
Wow! What a great story....I sure you will remember that one for a long time........Did you keep the news clipping and hang it on your wall????? The Texas Laws are very straight forward, I had to take classes, pass a test and get approved by the review board...I'm sure I'll make some mistakes along the way...just like everybody.....thanks for the story....

Re: Addition to business - scratching my head
I just read the 2005 Texas Supreme Court ruling you reference on your website and in your post.
What "authorization" "coming through" are you referring to?
Sounds to me like back in mid-2005 the Tx Supreme Court reiterated Rule 103 of TRCP where civil process is concerned. It's always been my pretense that this rule pretty much said me, you, or our grandmas could servce process as long as we were over 18 and not a party to the suit.

Re: Addition to business - scratching my head
Brenda - you are right, anyone can serve cival processes. However anyone wishing to serve papers must be approved by the court in which the case is to be heard, same thing with federal courts. now we all know.

Re: Addition to business - scratching my head -- same!
When exactly did this change to "must be" approved?
If you are referring to Leonard's Supreme Court remarks regarding Rule 103 and 536a, that was nearly two years ago.
Some courts have always required it. Some processors did it as a CYA...however, the blanket Rule 103 TRCP order has been around since the early 90's and used as required by the court.
I don't get this "new" authorization Leonard's professing to have.
Nothing new about it...or what am I missing.

It's "we" Larry, Riley and I are newly authorized......Maybe it just reads wrong....all I know it's added to our days workload and income...that's all the matters for us.

Re: Addition to business - scratching my head
Leonard - the "new" rule is nearly two years old. It reimphasizes the old rule where if you serve civil process all you need is to type a simple order from Rule 103 TRCP and file it with the court. The Supreme Court can give a blanket but my point is that it's hardly news unless you are just now getting into the civil process business.

Re: Addition to business - scratching my head
I just wanted others to know of ways to add to their business. Some may have never looked into CPS. You must/may have or even do CPS. I expanded by request of a few local clients and it's help increase cash flow, exposed us to even more clients and have even build a better trust and bond between us. Plus, the referrals continue to grow, we now consider our office in Brownsville a true "full-time" office (with a staff of 2) and not just a "part-time" business trying to look full-time. It also allowed me to expand to Lufkin (although that office is part-time at present). I just don't know what else to say to make my humble input into Notary Talk not upset anyone. It's 6am...I've got to get a cup of coffee and head to the office. Ciao!

Re: Addition to business - scratching my head
Leonard,
The people here (reading) can tell the difference between you putting up your link and talking about your cps biz as a means to advertise vs. you wanting to help others get business. If you want more people to join your site, you have three choices and still be within the rules here.
Put it in your profile and link to it so people can visit it, OR, buy an ad in the SS section and pay for the privilege of using this site to get more people interested in your business.
When you list your link in a post that's to get other notaries interested in your site it is pretty much considered advertising a service that many people on here do and keep in their profile. Just mention it and people can look if they are interested.
The reason this is such a great board which is not spammed by advertising is because that rule is respected and adhered to.
The other thing is if you request being able to advertise tastefully once or twice, the board owners may let you. They spend $10,000 a month here on behalf of *notaries* to advertise this board. If you want the privilege of using that to further your own business through the notary readers you have to request it.
