My experience having to call another notary
My exhusband was recently severly ill and I had to get a power of attorney for him. I was at the courthouse in the process of evicting a tenant and I called my boss, walked him through looking up a notary on this site, etc. He gave me the names of 4 different notaries and when I got to the hospital, I called the 1st one (no answer), the 2nd one (too busy) and the 3rd one was a block away and had a few minutes between signings. He was at the hospital within 5 minutes, got the papers notarized and out the door for a wonderful price of $20 total. It was much easier than I expected

Ditto. It's nice to hear about someone that does their job, while maybe helping a bit. Good on him! Whoever he is?

That is very cool. Glad to hear someone was so proactive about helping you out. Last year I had to have something notarized and called one of the ladies listed in my town. I knew she was a notary because we had a mutual friend. I called, introduced myself and asked if she could do it for me. She said yes but was very concerned about how I knew she was a notary. Wanted to know precisely how I found out she was. I mentioned the mutual friend by name to which she hotly replied "you know FAR too much about me." I decided to find someone else to do the acknowledgement for me after that. Maybe she was having a bad day but I hope I never present myself in that way.

How odd!
Most of us try to get our names out there. Why would she not want to be known as a notary? People are funny...

I know. I thought so also. It made me feel REALLY uncomfortable. That's why I decided to go someplace else. She acted like I was stalking her because we both live in the same small town where you can't help but know about each other's vocation and such. I happened to talk to her again (unrelated to notary work) a few months later and she said "You never called me back. How come?" to which I replied that things simply did not come together for me to have it done that weekend. I tried to be gracious but subsequently concluded that some people just don't have the right disposition for being in a service vocation.

Re: How odd!
Actually, your Notary Public Application is public record and anyone can request a copy of that information. So if you don't want your info available to the public don't go into "public office."
