NPBC Certification and Compliance Training - Update
For those of you who have purchased the NPBC Certification through http://www.notarypublicbackgroundcheck.com, we will be releasing a "compliance training" document no later than Thursday, February 8th, at Notary Rotary. As it currently stands, it appears this will be in the form of a 20-page PDF. We may also make it a module in the Notary Public 101 training center, in which case we would include a short exam.
The compliance training document is titled Information Stewardship and Security Awareness Training, Notary Public Edition and will be available for free. If we move it into our training center, it will also be available at no cost. This document will satisfy the ISSAT requirement of the NPBC Certification and will be available to NPBC sponsors for incorporation into their respective notary public and signing agent training curricula.
Next, I would like to take a second to remind everyone of the benefits of certification. Rather than arguing the finer points of what is and is not required or whether demand for a "single-source required background certification" was artificial and contrived behind closed doors for the sole purpose of taking your money, I will suffice it to say that the NPBC solution will increase your marketability on Notary Rotary if nothing else.
Once the NPBC Certification results are known and providing the certification is granted, each participating sponsor will be provisioned with a "Click to Verify" logo and link for the applicant. We are a participating sponsor and we will be displaying those logos in the Find a Notary search results. Wanna bet whose profile link is clicked first?
Outside of this benefit, we believe the NPBC Certification is the strongest on the market. Remember, it includes:
- Identity Verification - Commission Verification - E&O, Attorney and Licensed Title Producer Verification - Non-consumer Criminal Background Check
We are using the same company that has run over 2000 checks for a very discerning title company. (The last time I spoke with them, they were unwilling to accept the other "single-source" background check.)
So, we're moving as quickly as we can. Please stay tuned...

How do you know how much it will cost??????
This is confusing to me. It could cost between $9 and $119, and I don't see any way of determining an individual's actual cost. Do you just fill in the form, send it and required paperwork along with your CC info, and then wait to see how much the charge is on your CC statement?????

Re: How do you know how much it will cost??????
That was what was bothering me also. I'm not signing up for something unless I know what the cost is. I'm counting my pennies, as there are several renewals coming up for notary directory listings and the like.

It'll be on the form...
When you fill out the online form, the last page you fill out will have the information for what you qualify for and the amount. If you're not happy with it then just don't send it in.

Re: It'll be on the form...
I started to do exactly that, that is fill in all the forms until I got to the last page where the only choice was "level 3" which was almost $95.00. Considering what California makes you go thru to get a Notary commission (detailed application including criminal history, Notary examination, live-scan fingerprinting, background check with the California Department of Justice and maybe the FBI as well, state bond and optional E&O insurance) I'm really surprised that the fee should be as much as it was.
Perhaps Harry can explain who get what for $9 and who gets what for $119.

Re: It'll be on the form...
It's a lot of form filling out in the event that you don't send it in, one of the reasons I'd like to know up front what the costs are.
