OT OT OT Movie Review - Facing the Giants
An unexpected hit for me...
I like football movies about Cinderella teams...but I generally expect them to be true. I was a little disappointed when I realized I had rented a movie which was fictional and read the website only to find out that it was a church event movie acted in by an all volunteer cast--it wasn't exactly what I had in mind to watch.
Nonetheless, the humor was good in the first few minutes of it, and then I didn't turn it off because I was compelled by the surprisingly decent quality of acting by people who are not exactly bound for Oscar night ... seeing as how they are all just plain people from Georgia volunteering on this project.
Understand that I am really against prostituting the Bible and the fear of the Wrath of God by folks in such as the "Left Behind" series...just not my cup of tea...however, this movie has a message which is not anything like that and has positive entertainment and inspirational value for young people similar to the B-grade movie cult hit which I still watch in re-runs--The Karate Kid. But, of course, be aware that the values in this movie evolve from a certain faith, belief and lifestyle of a group I am associated with and which shall remain nameless lest I become covered in rotting tomatoes for discussing religion.
For those who would normally pass this over, give it a second look. I would think this movie would appeal to sports-minded kids in the fifth to seventh grade most of all and to old movie buffs like myself who are a little bit worn out with all the blood and guts. Lately I find myself looking for the laughs, true stories and for lighter fair in my entertainment.
Google up their website....Interesting motivating factors in the purpose of the making of this movie...good stuff for the kids and parents alike.

Sounds great! I read the website. I have several movies like this that I get for my 11 and 13 year old grandsons. I'll have to get it and add it to the collection. Thanks Brenda.

You're welcome, Barbara. Fortunately for NR I don't give out the 411 on the many movies I watch but this one was unique IMHO. That it caught my attention quickly was pretty impressive to me...anyhow, I think it's worth a look for families.

Thank you Brenda! I rented Little Miss Sunshine based on your recommendation here and it was so cute and funny! Our church is actually getting together tonight to watch Facing the Giants. I've heard great things about it. Sounds like the type of movie families need more of these days. Thanks again! You and I must share the same faith.
