OT - What do you have in your car?

We spend a lot of time on the road. What kind of things do you have in your car for safety, security, convenience, etc.?

I have an auto toolkit (which I wouldn't be able to use since I don't even know what a spark plug looks like), flashlights, portable air compressor, GPS, fed ex & Ups supplies, scissors, office supplies, hand sanitizer, and my daughter got me a coffee cup that plugs into the cigarette lighter to keep my coffee/tea warm, tea bags.

In addition to the good choices you have listed, I also have a spotlight that plugs into the lighter, my HP F380 copier (in the rollaround suitcase), a small eyeglass repair kit, an American Red Cross emergency kit, several 16oz bottles of water, an extra notary seal locked in the glove compartment, and some change for parking. "Silverwings" (my 2000 silver Honda) and I are ready to rock and roll.

Most of that and a compartmentalized pouch that attaches to the back of the passenger seat for easy access to office supplies and maps.
Also a short piece of copper pipe with big nuts welded on. Thats for breaking glass or heads.

High powered flashlight for seeing house numbers & street signs in the dark (thank you, QVC!!) -- it's a Craftsman, to boot! GPS windshield mount holder/charger, cell phone charger , radar detector, maps, gum, Altoid mints, mace, scrapers, Slim-Fast cans (for eating on the road without hitting the drive-thru), jumper cables, blanket and "emergency" $$.

I'm not a police officer, etc.. (I have some very good friends that are/were, now retired)However in CO if you "go to school" and don't have a record, you can get a permit. I think in FL the same thing applies? I 'heard' when thay passed that law the 'carjackings' and muggings went down by half. Got to watch those little 'ol ladies, they just may have something in their purse besides a SS check.

The above items in one form or another plus ......

Some of the areas I serve, cell phone service can be weak to none. I have a cell phone booster (I got it from an ad in the Good Sam magazine, but there are several good ones on the market) that works well. I also have a CB radio (yes, old school, I know) that I did use one time to call for help when I came across an accident where there the nearest cell tower was to far for the booster to work.

Also, a warm blanket, water, some granola bars .... depending on where I am going.

Re: Glenn How good are the cell phone booster?

Well, I was able to make a phone call while 4 wheeling out in the New York Mountians by Cima if you know the area. The nearest Cingular tower is about 35 miles. Also I have full service when traveling between Lucerne Valley and Yucca Valley on Old Woman Springs rd, where the service can be spotty with a lot of dropped calls. They are pricey, though I have this one: http://www.jdteck.com/.

Spring loaded center punch

Ever since I used to be a volunteer firefighter, I've carried a spring-loaded center punch. Carpenters use them to start drill holes, but they do a wonderful job of shattering side and rear windows into tiny pieces, which are relatively harmless. Useful either for escaping from a car that has gone into the water, or getting into someone else's car to render aid. Because it's spring loaded, you don't need a hammer.

I carry most of my supplies in my "man-bag." A notebook, FedEx and UPS supplies, pens, a flashlight, multi-tool, my notary stamp, an "initial here" stamp which I've never used, a cork (held over from when I was an escrow agent), misc office supplies, a map book, some extra cards, a copy of pertinent state statutes, paper clips, binder clips, a bunch of recepits... some mail... Smile I also have a "man-whore" pocket with a tiny cologne, hand sanitizer, moisturizer, wet wipes, nail file, and eye drops. A lighter, a book of matches... assorted change.

In my car I've got jumper cables, a first aid kit, a good wrench, an emergency compressor (which does me no good really as I've got nitrogen in my tires, not regular air), mechanic's gloves, SIRIUS satellite radio for the hours on the road, an emergency flashlight, a couple of "to-go" coffee cups, a trash bag (paper sack from the grocery store), and some envelopes.
