Signatures Plus Update
I received a check in the mail today from SP. It was approximately 20% of what they owe me in total. I went to the bank listed on SP's check to cash it and was told that the account number on the check was invalid (it was alpha-numeric instead of just numeric). They found SP's account and did a signature comparison. It matched.
I was sent away without any money. I was advised by the bank manager to deposit the check into my account at another institution and if/when the check was rejected, I could then report this information to their security department for investigation. Huh? It will take nearly two weeks to determine if this check will pass through. Oh, and if it doesn't, I'll receive a small fine for depositing an invalid check.
Anyone else experience this with SP's checks?

This sounds unreal.
I won't believe what you are saying until you link to your profile.

Okay...so now I am exposed. The SP thing -- not fiction.

Re: Signatures Plus Update WTH??
Okay, thanks....I appreciate that. I find it bizarre that the bank would not get onto that right away. They match the signatures but don't care that the check is bogus. I don't know about banking laws but this sounds ridiculous that they would just shrug it off after matching signatures.

Re: Signatures Plus Update WTH??
I asked them if they had an interest in an invalid check with their company name on it. The bank manager said that perhaps the local branch in California will honor the check. If not, then I had a case to present to security. Seems counterintuitive...

Oh, thanks. Logged in to my profile and I cannot find any reference to CA. Hmmm...I'll have to fix that.

why bother working for them or sox its the most stupid thing I hear on this site. I don't even know how those companies get away with it. So lets all work for them and let them get away with it. We are the stupid ones we continue to work for them and complain about it how foolish is that?

I have never been not paid. Had I known beforehand of their reputation I wouldn't have touched their signing with a ten-foot pen.

i can understand doing a freebie if no warnings but come on
this has been done to death how SP and SOX do not pay notaries.... so I agree take responsiblity for not doing your due diligence
i can just see the def in court... "Welll your honor these dang notaries should know by now we do not pay them and it is charity as some dang notary complains about it at least once a day on the boards"
jmo....

Tough room. I take full responsibility. I am not complaining. I am merely documenting my attempts at collecting what is owed and, thereby, hopefully helping others from falling into the same trap. Also, if I am ever successful at collecting remittance, perhaps others could follow my map.

Re: but why doesn't your profile match as I asked above?
Zee I don't know why Dwight's messages show CA (maybe same reason some show AK when they are not located there) But the profile info matches what is in another notary directory. So maybe a glitch with NotRot.

Please, please please people! Come on and please think! If this is the case what you are saying and I take this situation purely on face value, there are a few things that I would do. (yes I know it takes some time, but nothing goes unrewarded).
I speak this w/ respect to NJ; however, I am sure other states are similar with many of these respects...
1) You should report the situation to your local prosecutor's office and file a complaint 2) File a complaint with the Attorney General's office as well as the state's Dept. of Community Affairs (as is in NJ) or your state's equivilant. 3) A complaint with the Dept of Banking and Insurance against the Banking Institution is as well recommened for their incompentence for follow up and investigation 4) If the banking instititution is a National Association (ie Acme Bancorp, NA) then you as well need to file a complaint with the Comptroller of the Currency's office against the banking institution for their lack of investigation and incompetence.
While 3&4 are not against the SS they are holding the SS banking institution responsible for their employees actions and once they get fined, investigated, and threatened to lose their licensure you can bet your bottom dollar they are going to go after the SS with full force.
If you dont believe me, trust me I have the experience with such. I was in a situation not exactly the same but similar results and well after the COC and DOB AG and Prosecutor's office got involved things were resolved not today, but yesterday. And yes the national banking institution came extremly close to becoming defunct. Ive seen it where the authorities went in on another banking institituion and personally let me tell ya the head honchos even get scared and take action.
At nerate, not to ramble on, the moral of this reply is to make sure that you take a stance and action.
have a great day/evening.
