The Background checks.. Once again
I keep getting the wonderful emails from companies re: GLBA. Now it's been pushed back to the date of March 1 for several of them. Just curious.. before the NNA got everybody up in arms.. how many of you had the background checks performed in the past couple of yrs by TransUnion, GMAC, etc?

I've had 3 done. But they paid for them. Honestly, if we'd all just keep saying no, I think this will die a slow death. And most of the 'need this' companies have been willing to take what I have and not require the NNA one. All, per GLBA, that is really 'required' is that we sign a 'contract' that we will 'protect privacy'. (Lot more words, but that's the meaning.)

I received one yesterday. I have already had a background check several years ago...wonder if the "powers that be" will accept it. Do you suppose the NNA had something to do with this requirement?

So far, I have not been asked for one by anyone. They seem satisfied with an attorney's good standing with the court because you can not practice law with a felonious background

In most states you can not be a Notary Public with a felonious background either.
What gets me is that they keep quoting GRLB Act as "requiring" the BGC. This Act was passed in 1999 and nowhere does it require a BGC. They keep siting the NNA as the only "approved" BGC they'll accept. Who has their big foot in the door here?
Since the NNA doesn't allow just the BGC, I say the SA should foot the bill for the so-called certication course and BGC from NNA. Maybe they'll shutup. LOL.
