TriStar Title
Is there a site where we can check the status of title companies? I heard that one that I work with (through a signing co.) ceased business on Thursday.

I just did one on Friday for Tristar through my signing company, although I have noticed a decrease in business from them

In this area at least, they were doing their best to "hire" notaries to be available exclusively to them during the normal business hours and paying $40 per closing. Not sure if they ran out of people who would work for that. They had emailed a lot of notaries from the various boards; if you called they wanted to do a standard job interview and you had to agree to their exclusive hours, low fees and no guarantee of work. Personally, I am glad they are gone.

Sorry, I'm in Illinois. I have no idea if they are all the same or not.

I'm in Illinois. I was told it was the Chicago office. However when I searched, I found a Tri-Star Title in Missouri that had been ordered to cease and desist in November, 2006.

Are y ou talking about Tirstar Title, LLC located in Lombard, IL? They have 2 offices in the state of Illinois. I can't imagine this is the company you are referring to.....they have always been a sold quick pay and never looked for notaries to work for peanuts.

I heard the same thing. The other tristar offices are open but the ones in IL are not. Their voicemail picks up but no person. They had always been fair and fast for payment. Now I'm going to have to see what I can do.

The signing company that always contacted me to sign for Tri-Star always wanted travel of more than 15-20 miles one way, print a 120 page package and another 120 for borrower copy, fax back about 30-40 pages (to the signing co and the title co) and pay $75.00 tops! I know of a notary who did a closing for them at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday when the lender/title co told the borrower it had to happen that night instead of the originally planned day of Friday. I'm in Illinois, I've only ever worked with the Lombard office.

I heard a rumor that a title company in Illinois had been shut down and I suspected that it could be this one. I tried both IL offices, Lincolnwood and Lombard, only voicemail. Lately, I have turned down many of their signings through a CA signing company due to inadequate fee. The last one I accepted on Thursday, after they got my fee approved, was supposed to be for Friday night, 02/23/07. Two hours later it was cancelled. Does anyone have any information as to why they were shut down/closed their doors. You can email privately if you wish. Thanks, Tonya
