United Notaries - nonpayment
I got a call from United Notaries to do a closing about 50 miles away on Wednesday. Since I was driving, I didn't have a chance to check my payment records and just said sure. Later, I remembered that they still owe me for closings and checked my closings spreadsheet. They owe me for a closing on March 24, another on July 20, another on July 25, another on August 24, and another on December 11! I had sent faxes and invoices several times to "Naomi" with absolutely no response or payment for any of these. They did pay a couple of other closings, but not these. Needless to say, I have sent an email to the scheduler detailing the situation and stating that I am not in a position to provide any further pro bono services to United Notaries! They used to be good about paying, but obviously they've stiffed me big-time this past year. Does anyone have any suggestions about who to contact, phone numbers, etc., to get this non-payment issue to the right person to resolve it? Obviously "Naomi" isn't the right person.

I can't believe this! I have average memory but if some SS owes me money I remember right away. I will not work for someone that's behind on payment.

Ok, so beat me up instead of answering my question
Yes, I know am completely absolutely positively beyond a doubt at fault, stupid, dumb, ridiculous, and any other namecalling you'd like to indulge in. Excuse me while i grovel in the dirt at your feet and you beat me with a wet noodle. So now that we have the mea culpa mea culpa out of the way, can we move on? Again, if anyone might possibly have a good contact person besides this "Naomi" who has helped you get paid on overdue invoices, I'd appreciate the information. I have followed up on these invoices several times. They used to be a good company as far as paying on time. It is crazy to me too that I was still accepting work from them, and I have no excuse why except I might have been suffering from CRS on those days. Sigh.

Re: United Notaries
They owe me, too. As for remembering who owes me and who is late, I'm in the same boat as Sharon. There's only TWO companies that I'll never work for..SOX & Fox.

Re: United Notaries
Don't feel bad Sharon, they still owe me for one in June and one in August of last year! I did turn them down when they asked me to do another signing! I turned them in to the BBB in San Diego, but received a notice from the BBB that they had done all they could do!

I've done the same thing Sharon....I'm not one of those folks that can drive, check my calendar and talk on the phone at the same time. I hate getting calls while on the road and unfortunately for me I try to hurry the call along and take care of the particulars once I get to an area that I can "think". But on to the situation...I used to do alot of work for these folks until payments began to slow down. Once they hit 45 days I called, told them I needed to talk to "their boss" and I'd continue that until I got someone that had authority to discuss payment. I've pulled my paperwork to see if I had a name and unfortunately I have nothing different than what you've got. Please let us know how this works out for you, I have no idea what's happened to these folks but they're definitely walking on the edge.

Remembering nonpayment hint
Add the phone number to your cell phone names & add a keyword or something to help you remember that the company DOES NOT PAY. Or have a special ringtone for non-paying companies -- that you'll recognize right away & can either not answer (and not use minutes on the deadbeats) or turn down right away after asking for the AP person to settle the debt.
Although, having past due since March & you continued to accept assignments into DECEMBER -- Wow! I could see forgetting this company the first or maybe 2nd time, but 3 times, ooh. Write it into your phone, calendar, memo pad, whatever so you don't continue to get burned. Must be an expensive lesson to learn.

I do not agree to take expencive lesson. Make them to get their lesson. Contact collection service like Fedelity Co and they will collect your money. Yes, it will cost you a couple of $$ but at least you will be able to get paid. If you want I'll e-mail to you sample of letters to worn them first, then contact the collecting agency.

I don't recommend taking the lesson, just that
if you keep making the same mistake...there's something wrong. Yes, everyone makes a mistake, but stupidity is making the same mistake again & again.
As for contacting a collection agency, they usually have a minimum amount that they'll take on. I doubt it would be worth it for any agency to take on a small amount of overdue balance -- not worth their time. I think someone posted that the NNA sposored collection agency has a minimum amount that they will attempt to collect. Anything less & they don't want to be bothered.
