When you get your 1099's . . .
check them for accuracy. One of my Tx network people already gave a report yesterday that a Texas Title Str-er...company seems to have their amount wrong on the 1099.
Might be just a mistake on her part or theirs...but double check the figures on your 1099's. I think someone has said this recently and it didn't hit me what it was possibly all about.
Call me naive, but this is one thing I never considered to be a problem. I earned, they report, I put on my taxes...but now days businesses might not remember clearly if they paid you that big fee, or if they kept it to themselves.

okay, that sounded arrogant...

I meant to say, "One of my Tx network buddies." It's not MY network, it's OURS.

Re: When you get your 1099's . . .a question
I have a question...I received my 1099 from a ss...on it, was my name ONLY and NOT my corporation name also, i.e. Doc Stuart (line 1) doc stuart entp Inc (line 2)also ...in the space for Recipients identification number, it had it listed as xxx-xx-xxxx (like a ssan) instead of xx-xxxxxxx....does this need to be corrected? TIA
"Doc"

Re: When you get your 1099's . . .a question
I also had that question and a tax professional told me recently (when she was working on my taxes) that since I was already in IRS system by both my name and biz name & number's it wouldn't matter. I had income last year from both SS# and SE# so I guess Uncle Sam will have no problem figuring it out. :0) (I figure they know who I am and where to find me irregardless)

kathy/ca - - since we are being so "helpful" on spelling...
In your original post on a thread from 1/30/07, you state in your SUBJECT line:
**DOT in wifes maiden name, ID in wifes maiden name BUT she is Posted by kathy/ca of CA on 1/30/07 9:56pm **
Kathy - that should be "wife's", not wifes. No such word as "wifes."

There is no such word as "irregardless"!

Beg to differ on whether it's a word or not.

Not the best use, but still a word

Re: the correct use of irregardless....
The dictionary defines this word as the improper use of the word 'regardless'. However, consider this...
The U.S. Army has announced the closing of the National Guard Armory in Erie, Pennsylvania thus leaving Erie Guardless.
Oh, c'mon....you saw it coming.....

If you're incorporated you shouldn't be getting 1099's at all right???????
PS I'm no more a CPA than I am a lawyer.

Sorry Brenda. I meant to add this to response to Doc. You are right. I already rec'd two 1099's that are incorrect. I sent e-mail to both and asked for corrected version.

Why ask for a corrected 1099
If the illegitimi want to claim that they paid you all that, ask for a check

Usually the 1099's I receive from the local title companies are less than what they actually paid me. In this case (I can only speak for the companies I do business with), if they pay right from the escrow, it doesn't go through their bookkeeping and is not reported. Whatever is paid from bookkeeping is reported. I rely on my records which is ok with my tax guy. Now if they reported *more* on the 1099 than my records showed that would be a different story!

THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR FOR THIS TAXES ON THIS. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY 1099'S YET. HOW LONG DO THEY HAVE TO GET THEM TO US?

When 1099's arrive
Technically they have till the end of Feb. to send them, but since employee W-2's are due 1/31 most companies do the 1099's about the same time. I got a flood of them last week.
You'll only get a 1099 if you received over $600 from the same company. So if you're like most and spent your first year scurrying and building a reputation and did a bunch of little jobs for a bunch of little companies you might not get many 1099's, if any.
Uncle Sam and Uncle Arnold would like you to report that income anyway... don't forget the expenses too.

Not true if you worked for Trans State Closers. They sent me a 1099 for all the work I did for them this year....$75. This is the smallest amount I have ever got on a 1099 or W-2 in my life. I might make a copy and frame it and hang it up in my office.
