Windows Vista Update Advisor

Referencing the discussion on the issue of upgrading Windows XP to the new Vista OS, below is a link to a MS web page which allows you to download their "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor 1.0". This software will scan your entire hardware & software setup to ensure you don't have any major issues with a Vista upgrade. Hopefully this will be of assistance to any of you who are considering Vista. It pays to "look before you leap".

Thanks Dennis, Great info. Even though my computer passes, I have it locked down and secure and works just fine. I got a heck of a deal on a new computer because I bought it just before Vista came out. I see no advantage right now to Vista.

There are those who like the looks of Vista and want to upgrade because you think it looks cool. Well, if I may, I do have a link for you

I have installed a couple of these and it is cool ........

I Purchased a New Computer...

...in October of last year with the anticipation of upgrading the OS to Vista when it became available. A Vista Ultimate upgrade DVD has been sitting on my desk for several weeks now & I've been biding my time to see if any major issues surface amongst the general Vista populace prior to loading it on my new system. The MS Vista Upgrade Advisor shows only a few minor issues on my present setup & I'm warming up to the idea of taking the plunge. It may take place this weekend.

Also,

The problems I have heard of when upgrading have been caused by not enough computer. I remember when Apple went to OS X, from 9, the programs written for 9 did not work in X, massive upgrades needed etc. But you did not hear much about that because Mac

Lost power .....

My power went out in the middle of the last post. Had enough time to push enter ....

Anyway, you never heard anything about the Mac problems, because they are only 4% of the market and did not affect anyone in business. It was at that time when I had both a mac and windows machine where I made the decision to move to windows.

I got most of Vista up and working

I got my HP 1300 installed and this had nothing to do with Vista, it was my own fault.

I removed a number of programs that were taking a half hour or so when I rebooted.

The problem with my computer as I "removed" these programs one of them made the computer log off.

I'll tell you "I thought my life had flashed in front of me"
The log off was taking 10 minutes so I pulled the plug and started the computer again and thank goodness I had a loan signing at 10:00 am and had to leave the office.

When I got home the computer had returned to normal.

I will never ever buy an upgrade to Windows as long as I live. If I ever post another problem about Vista I hope Harry does a "mercy killing" and deletes my post.

Thanks for all the responses I got in an earlier post because through the response I knew I couldn't remove Vista.

Question, Joan: When you start your computer...

Does it give you an option to start either Vista or XP? If it does, there's a way to remove Vista and get your old system back.

Joan, Now is the time to pick up an el cheapo back up computer. You can get them for less than $400 in lots of places.
