You can do it.
That is the simple title of my blog entry this morning, and I wanted to share it with you:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of my favorite quotes is from the late president Theodore Roosevelt. It is:
> "Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, Tell 'em "Certainly I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it." <
I had mixed interpretations of it at first. I interpreted it as, fake your way through life. Tell people you can do something, even if you can't. But later I found a new way of interpreting it.
We have to believe that we can accomplish anything we set our minds to. That's within obvious limits, of course. We can't pretend that we're brain surgeons if we're not. But within the realm of the things that we do know and can do, we have to have confidence that we can add new skills, accept new challenges, become even better notary signing agents.
This is a dynamic profession that we're in. There are many doors to many opportunities. Find them. Open them. Don't think that you're "just a notary". You can be so much more.
So the next time someone asks you if you can do something, tell 'em, "Certainly I can!" Then get busy, and find out how to do it.
Good luck.
--------------------------------------------------------
P.S. And if you still don't know how, "Use the orange search tab."

You're going to get flack for this one!
The "Fake it 'til you make it" philosophy works very well for many things. Being a Notary Public, especially being a Notary Signing Agent, is, however, not among them.
"Can you do edocs?" "Sure! I've got an ink jet printer with a new cartridge installed." "Can you do faxed docs?" "Sure! My fax machine has lots of thermal paper left." "I need the Will I've just written by hand notarized. I don't want to pay any #$% lawyer. Can you notarize it for me?" "Sure!"
Need I go on?r

I don't think that is what he meant.
I think he was trying to say exactly what we tell our children, "You can do anything you put your mind to!" Always have high expectations and they will achieve them. I think he was trying to say that you should challenge yourself and learn all you can. He wasn't saying you should accept an assignment without the proper equipment. IMHO

I am afraid how the newbies might interpret it.
Equipment was only one example.
Given some of the questions that have been asked here, it is clear that some people have embarked on the good ship Notary Signing Agent without having done basic Notary work.

i don't think thats quite what he......
meant.......his thinking is right.....i have been in sales for 52 years and you need to keep a positive attitude about the way and how you do things in life........ "can't is a coward not willing to try"----if you believe it, you can concieve it"
"if you think you are good--you are"......."if you think you are bad you are" just a variation of "you are what you think you are".........we all carry one thing with us thru out life.....it can be our best friend or our worst enemy.......it is our ego.....jmho.....hope you all have a great eom....................

Good post! There is a wealth of information on this board. I was also taught that if you don't know how to do something, learn how. And if you can't, let the experts!

Ah! PJM/MI gets it!
"... if you can't, let the experts!" sums it up nicely.
Yes, we all have to start somewhere. Getting educated is The Best Place!

the message
I think the main point of the message was missed. ...
>> "Get busy, and find out how to do it." <<
It's not saying that you should pretend to be anything. And you don't have to wait for someone to ask you if you can do something.
The message is simply, if there is something that you don't know how to do, find out how to do it. And have the confidence that you can do it.
Look ahead. Anticipate. Be prepared.
Good luck.

Re: That's a GREAT message!
I agree with the "can-do" however there are word mincers and hair splitters on this forum which will slap you all to heck for being positive, contributing more than they want you to, or for being a bright spot in their own stinkin' thinkin.
I understood what Ernest was warning of.
Good for you Leon...and understand that Ernest has been slapped around himself...LOL...I have too!
