Yesterday I went to a signing that turned a little ugly. The husband borrower was suspicious and turned a little hostile (towards his wife, not me) He was asking me questions about the loan officer (I had never met or even talked to before) and the loan (had him call the LO). My personal opinion on a deal like this is to try to get them to sign (no RTC on this one, investment) give it a reasonable amount of time( 30 to 45 minutes) and say I have other appointments and leave if I cannot get things moving. Of course the loan officer ends up blaming me and saying that: I either did something wrong or did not have the time. Am I doing the right thing?????

No, I don't think you did anything wrong, but they have to blame somebody... Hello, Notary!
Slight improvement: When the nonsense begins & looks like it's not going to be readily resolved, tell them that you do have other appointments & need to get this 'moving right along, now'. If, 15 minutes later, they're still fiddling around, THEN you say "I really must leave now & it would be a good idea to resolve any problems you may have before re-scheduling this''. They've been warned; they ignored, but, you put in your time and attempts. Walk away. And let hiring co. know immediately what went down.

I've been in similar situations. If there is not a recission period, it would be especially stressful if the terms are different. What I have done, is let them write down the critical questions they have (we're not allowed to leave docs unless they were sent to the borrower). I then tell them I will come back later in the day (unless it is an hour out of my way). That way they have time to talk to the lender. We are never to try to "convince them" to sign anything. We are uninterested parties. I then call the lender or whoever hired me and explain the situation. I try to be very careful not to say I have to hurry because I have other appointments. After all, they are paying us for our services. I will say I have other appointments and if it's not too far, I will do the other one then come back.

Most of the time when we have to documents, the borrower is under the impression that everything is exatly as stated by their l.o., so you can't really "warn them" to have problems resolved next time. As far as they knew, they WERE resolved before you entered their home.

I had a similar experience yesterday

Bo wouldn't sign at first attempt. He called me later (after hours) and asked me to come back. It was too late to get approval and another conf from hiring entity. Even though I was finally on my way home from my 6th signing for the day, (and thinking about that Merlot waiting for me) I went and completed the signing.

Now I know some will say (Cali for sure) that I should have opted for the Merlot. However I did the job 'cause it was EOM. Hopefully Karma kicks in and I'll get paid for both trips.

I had a similar situation on Saturday. How the LO talked her into signing, I'll never know. It was an ARM, not fixed as she had been promised, the pmt was due in 2 weeks and the amt she was borrowing was 33% more than what she wanted. My jaw dropped when I overheard him telling her what a bad notary I was on the speaker phone! He said the bad info was my fault and that I should know better than making a pmt due in 2 weeks, etc., though the figures were clearly typed in before I got the docs. I was shaking when I left because he was so hostile about me! She did sign the docs but she chewed his rear off for blaming me for his work! I hope to take my $135 and run. I kicked myself for not charging more in the first place. I was a sap for the nice girl who called to book the appointment. Never again, my friend. They are off my list!
