signature line is John Doe, Trustee. This is

a new one for me. I have a signing for a person named John Doe. All the docs have signature lines as follows:

_____________________
John Doe

and

_____________________
John Doe, Trustee

all the docs - even the DOT has the acknowledgement as such. I know we cannot id capacity in CA. Can anybody shed some light on this? TIA. I have the signing in 2 hours.

I cannot offer any CA advice, but when I get these in FL, I have them sign their
name on line 1, and line 2, their Name, trustee.
My notarial certificate reads:

Acknowledged before me this 23 day of February 2007 by
John Doe
John Doe, as trustee for the John Doe Revocable Trust.

Hope that helps should you not get CA advice in a timely manner.
Be sure to read your CA handbook for state specific verbiage.

Have him sign as requested however you can only notarize as John Doe. If "trustee" is preprinted on the ack, cross it off or use an all-purpose ack.

I am a trustee and have directions to always sign my name and add "Trustee" or "as Trustee"
This is how the signature card for the bank acct is as well. All checks must be signed as trustee. This is from the trust attorney.
So far, any documents I have signed have stated I am signing in the capacity as trustee as well.

They can sign as trustee, but the acknowledgment is for the person only (just the name) not the position (no capacity). At least that's the way it is in CA. Many other states allow official representative capacity to be shown in the notary certificate, but alas, CA does not.
