It doesn't surprise me. I had a similar experience with Nations Direct. They contacted me to go "notarize" documents for an attorney in town who didn't have a notary on staff. They assured me that he would be conducting the closing and I would merely be witnessing the signature.
Turns our they have hired a DEFENSE attorney to conduct this closing, and he has never so much as looked at a mortgage doc. Needless to say, I conducted the closing. I did find out a bunch from him....at the time, Ditech would only do attorney closings, therefore, since he was hurting with the student loans from law school, they enticed him with $90.00. He thought that was "good money". He said they sought him out and kept calling until he accepted.
I later found out that he had become a notary and was working solely for Nations. Funny, I don't get calls much from Nations, and have never seen his name on the notary websites. I think he works exclusively for Nations. They must be keeping him busy...throwing pennies at him.
