Different brands of printers
Most printers discussed on this forums are either HP or Brother. Does anyone have a different brand printer, such as Oki or Canon or Samsung and if so, how does it compare to HP or Brother?

All my positive experience has been with Brother. I am a loyalist. I just did a page count on my 5170DN and it read 105700 pages.... and I just replaced the original drum two weeks ago. Toner is cheap and easy to refill. Used an Oki machine at a TC a few years ago, and it jammed constantly. It was down more often than not. I had a Canon copier which broke me when it came to replacing toner.

Thanks for the info. Oh, I have had a Samsun Lazer for two years now, and I love it. Toner is about $74 at Office Depo.

A real live nephew of my Uncle Samsung. :)
Sorry couldn't help myself
Try these folks for a cheaper cartridge. I too use a Samsung ML 2250 and could not be happier, especially with this supplier.

I tryed using the refilled cartridge; the ink was great but the old cartridge went bad. The gears that drive the drum stopped turning and I had to get a new one.

He's not an Oki, he's my Brother
I absolutely agree about the Brother's... but I needed a color laser for another business and bought the Oki. I've been very happy with it for a couple years now. It's excellent for color printing, quick and cheap consumables. If I had bought it just for loan docs I would have bought something else, but even in that it holds it's own. 18ppm and $42 for 5,000 page black toner.
It goes weeks and months with nary a jam, but it does get in a jammin' mood now and then and drives me ape till it decides to be happy again.
Anyhow, I just thought the Oki deserved a little defense... my next printer, coming soon, is a Brother b&w laser for the trunk of my car.

Re: He's not an Oki, he's my Brother, I know this wasn't the
question but for color I love my Xerox 3600. Its fast, clean and makes great ipressions. No cartridges: it use bricks of color material just drop them in and go and I like the color temperature of the finished product..

I have a Samsung ML 2250. It's fast enough but it will jam sometimes and it's hard to get cleared. Also it only has one tray (legal or letter) and the output paper tray is too small and only holds 30 to 40 sheets.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback. I have an HP 1320 TN but I'm considering a backup printer. Since these other brands were listed in the circulars this past weekend, I thought I'd get some opinons.

Canon ImageClass
The is an extremely easy printer to use, fast and reliable. The only problem is you can't print some documents such as MagicDox and Elynx on it. I have three laser printers, so I print any documents sent on those two programs on my HP Laserjets.

Just in case you didn't already know, one thing that was just alluded to above, is that some print utilities used for loan doc delivery require the HP PCL6 printer drivers or equivalent. (Apparently some Brother printers are able to emulate those drivers.) Just something to keep in mind, depending on how much of a backup you want. I have a small Samsung I use to do things like printing out confirmations and/or directions while I have l loan docs printing on my other HP printer. I wouldn't use the Samsung for printing documents even if they were PDF, though, because of the significant difference in print quality.

To JanetK, what is the difference in print quality? And is it because your Samsung is not PCL6 capable or just the difference in printers? I guess I just assumed that the print quality of all laser printers would be about the same.
