Does any county in Texas allow white out on the DOT?

Did a signing today for a lady buying a house in Texas. On all the notary pages there was white out on the state and county part. When I called the title co they said that the notaries never line through the state and county so they just whited it out. So I had to take the bo's copy and line through the state and county put the correct one in with my initials.

I know the answer but just wondering.

Any legal doc would be compromised as how do you prove when the white out was applied and what it is hiding?

i think the bo is an idiot to have signed but hey that is mho.....

i was a paralegal for a few decades....

I have only received that in one package and it came from Texas Nations Title a long time ago. That's the Texas branch of Nationstitle. It was only on one title document. I made a copy of it rather than use the "white out" copy as I think it's a bad idea, if not just plain wrong. However, has the "law" caught up with the days of white out and made clear laws against it? Don't know.

I can see how title companies might let one slip through on this on just their title docs. I am sure it was an accident in my case.

I suspect someone got overworked and meant to copy your entire package before sending out.

I'm with Brenda, as usual.

I'd photocopy the page with the whiteout and use the copy.

Using whiteout is a major no no!

I can only speak for Arkansas (& this used to be true & maybe still is for WI, also...possibly it's even universal, but I don't KNOW that). Recording offices don't care whether whiteout is used or not. This is a NSA/TC/SS/Lender bugaboo only, IMHO. I am not a lawyer, but I watch Law & Order a lot.

I've seen them use white out on a regular basis here in MI at the title company office.
