Getting Started
Hi all, I am brand new at this. Can any of the new notary signers out there tell me what obstacles they came up against as far as signing agencies not wanting to sign them due to their inexperience? That's what I'm afraid of...at least my first fear! Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Getting Started - Carolyn...
Until you get current responses, two hints.
Use the orange search button.
Start at msg #1 and work your way forward as a study project.
Every question imaginable has been asked and answered at least ten times.

Hi and Welcome
Carolyn, I emphasized my communication skills and account management background. It helped sometimes but not always. What skills or experience do you have that can be transferrable? That's what you emphasize. Good luck.

Re: Hi and Welcome
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I am not really worried about my skills per se, but the instructor at the notary class said "all the signing companies are just waiting for the new notaries to sign up-they don't care if you have experience or not". And then I see their comments on the websites stating they want only experienced notaries and I get nervous. So I guess I really do just need to jump in and get started, one signing at a time.

I'm fairly new also but I always sound very confident when I'm talking with them. I also found out that the Handbook on Home Loans (via NNA for about $30.00) very helpful. No matter how many classes you can take it is still not the same as ahdnling the real docs when they arrive. Good Luck and hang in there!

Thanks! I'll be sure to get the handbook. Every little thing that helps, or gives me a reference tool I'm going to go for. Thanks for the advice.

Read message #33325 in it's entirety, then go get 'em, tiger! Welcome aboard. Just like Brenda said, the orange search button will probably answer 99% of your questions, but if you absolutely cannot find what you are looking for, she, Charm_AL, PAW, Ernest_CT and several others are a wealth of notary and signing agent info.
TTFN, Howie

Welcome...
Make sure you have a reliable printer and fast internet. Add information to your profile. Get a home study course like the signing regstry and study it. Get a website set up. Keep good records!
Get ready for the end of the month (4 banking days prior to the first day of the following month)

The big 3
1. Know your laws 2. do your job correctly 3. efficiency is the key in business
These are the three big lessons I learned about this business when I was an active signing agent. There's about a dozen members here that I learned valuable lessons from and I would narrow it down to 4 about 6 that I would say truelly have a grasp on the knowledge of the job and the business sense it takes to be successful.
To learn these lessons you must do 1 thing. Study, study, study, study, and study.

You get a A+ for the question!
Thank you for a well thought out question. It's refreshing to have a new person come in and not expect to be given information for starting a business and all of our lists of signing companies.
You should do well in this business. Good luck! : )
